Why Not Make It Bigger, New HSV Engines

  Top of Page

HSV has once again decided to increase the capacity of its already big engines to 6.2L, they will all get this engine from April, outputs are 317Kw 550Nm Torque, which is a fair whack of power really.

Seems to be the current trend for most car manufactures these days to increase displacement as well as power. Funny how no one seems to phased by the whole ‘global warming’ and looking at emissions outputs :O they harp on about it all the time yet clearly don’t seem to do much to help. Were following the whole us style ‘bigger is better’
Ill just stick to my ‘ricers’ and forced induction big_smile

its not big enough.. they need to hit the 7.0L mark for all production SS's!!

and funny enough, the fuel economy is the same if not better than the 5.7L engine...

Global Warming is fake.

I've said this before, and I'll say this again.

If Holden get their sh!t together and consider a sports wagon* of some description, be it 6.2L, 7.0L or friggin 72L. I'll consider it.

But it'll never happen. They're simply friggin agricultural vehicles. A simple ass tractor with a big motor.

*decent power. decent handling. decent braking. decent wagon!

I believe that HSV are about to release a wagon. As per the handling and braking I am unsure, but it has certainly got power. Some where around 327kW I think.

Word on the grape vine is that a HSV wagon is on the cards, if this is the case it will get the better suspension (possibly MRC which really does make these things handle well) big brakes and the LS3 317Kw 6.2L Engine big_smile

Thats all I know for now big_smile

Yep, that sounds about right. That worth considering regashi?

Well, providing they have improved their build quality. The front bars on the VX S2 Clubsports are terrible, clips breaking all the time.

From my experiences with the VE (Reasonably Limited) they do seem to have a much better build quality then previous model Commodores, time will tell but big_smile :ninja:

No their taxis.

That might be a lot of power, but that's pathetic output from 6.2 litres

Our Subies get over 200kw out of 2.0 litre 4 bangers lol

And then you have these guys: Hartley Enterprises

Who manage to get about 300kW out of 2.8L of NA. :neo:

Re: Why Not Make It Bigger, New HSV Engines

Difference is that the HSV engines are massively mass produced in America, these 2.8L ones are very highly strung, best of probably everything on them and revving them through the ceiling also to increase the HP :Derisive:

I didn't say they were cheap :Derisive: but they sure are cool. I think that power is at 7500rpm. Would be good fun in a TA22 celica or something :neo:

Yes but that is aided by a little metal snail, you can easily tune those engines up for massive amounts of power without going near forced induction.

And yes those 2.8L would be bloody expensive....buttt you are right man they would be fun and ide imagine that they would sound great too hearing a V8 revving through the ceiling like that big_smile

You fella's need to realise.
Those V8's may "Only" make 317kw. But they do it just off idle.
Therefore there is diddly stress on the engine and other parts.

Quote from the HSV announcement;
"The HSV LS3 engine has a capacity of 6.2 litres, producing 317kW of power at 6000rpm and 550NM of torque at 4600 rpm, as fitted to the HSV range."
6.2 litres worth of motor spinning at 6000rpm is gunna be under a bit of stress me thinks........
But i can see the point ya making about grunt off idle, would be handy at times:ninja::neo:

Yeah thats what i meant mate.

The difference between a big v8 engine, and the turbo 4's is staggering.
Not to say the Turbo Subaru's aren't good. Far from it.
They're just two completely different beasts.

Re: Why Not Make It Bigger, New HSV Engines

Ive done my time with big v8's, got a couple of mates still playing with em, they were greatly disappointed with how well my crappy little 2 litre four went :neo::Dance:. Different motors have different characteristics agreed, but really how usable is 300kw with 2wheel drive? Shed loads of fun, but really useful?
