who's been bitten by the bug

  Top of Page

i own a 97 rx, and love every kw i have. i read these threads and daydream (im meant to be doing a uni essay as we speak) about owning a car that could make it into the 14sec bracket. i just wanted to ask those who have the cars if they get tired of owning such a beast. iv got plans for my baby, and by her 3rd year will be up there, but for you guys, are you over the hype and get annoyed whenever a excel driver with go fast stripes tries to run it?

Mine would be very close to a flat 13, possibly less, it has stuck with a 12.3 WRX from rolling start to 170.

i got tired of owning my last car, i got harrassed too much in it, i couldnt leave my street without being pulled over, at my last EPA test my exhause came in at 118db, i had free flowing 3 inch exhaust on a fuel hungry V8, i was pulling 345Hp at the rear wheels and ran a best of 11.4 quarter mile,.
Once you start modding you have to put up with eg.
- 3 gear boxes $1100-$2400 a pop, (last time i had it completed cutom built, thanks als race glides)
- diff re-build - $750.00
-snapped axels - replaced with billet axels - $380.00 each
- cracked head- $1200.00
- snapped tail shaft twice, $800.00

and this is from what i can remember

Only 2 probs I have, all Holden, Ford and little boy racers ( 200sx, mx5, etc) see it's a GT then always tryin to pick from the lights to the carpark, they rev and cut me off while mindin my bus.. Other Subi drivers never had a prob with, even chat at the lights about our Subi's. As for My GT ( my love), for a Jap car, outside Lexus, Subi's are the best, but still not as good in quailty, technology and class as my last car an Audi or other Euro cars. My car at 1/4 mile no idea, but he does run mid 5's to 100km :king2:
hahaha i used to be one, i used to spin past you!!! i used to love cutting off "jap crap" especially rexi's !!! and used to have little rexis constantly trying to run me, i used to fry the wheels along side them while they were shifting gears, and play with the throttle.. but now im a hypocrit and own a lib..  :Dntknw:

Sure, i get tired of owning a fast car but only because it's not fast enough! hahaha...
It's always a quest for more power, more more more! Unfortunately, my GT-B wagon isn't such an interesting car to drive for me (compared to my previous cars) so i really only see it as a fast straight line car and in a straight line these days 14 second 1/4 mile times just isn't fast enough. My goal will be to get my car down to a low 13 second (my wife has to drive the car and it's meant to be our family car so that should be fast enough). In my mind that's about the beginning of speed street cred and beyond that things would get too expensive i think. Besides i've driven FAST cars, they aren't fun, they aren't practical and they do attract the wrong sort of attention.

XXB4XX what did you used to drive? Sounds like fun.

Not really interested in hurting it enough to spin the wheels & mine is basicaly a MY97 STI in a Liberty body, I'm more than content with it as it is which apart from CAI & 3" turbo back is stock but I do have a NOS set up installed, I'm just waiting to grow the nads to fill the bottle & hit the switch.

You'll find that the gen2 sedans react very nicely to a turbo drivetrain. both mine an d_gens are perfect examples. his being a bit quicker then mine due to the type of jap engine used, but mine was still good for a 13.3 @ 104mph @wsid which is a fairly quick car to be honest.

d_gen urs should drop into the hi 12s i would assume.

All this talk of turbo gen2s wat to do.....

i had been bitten by the bug, thats what my last car was all about...

i had a hevily workd laser 4wd turbo, the car was a 13sec flat (posibbly less) car in street form, and it was great at traffic light GP, 1st gear was so short i could pull across an intersection before basicly any other car around... it had a full suspention / caster/camber setup etc...

but at the end of the day, it had a 3" and droned like hell, it was as rough as guts on the road cause of the race suspention and it threw u in the seat the moment it hit 3k and would keep u there till redline... 3 engines , 3 gearboxes, 3 clutchs and countless other items later i got fed up with the breaking etc from constant racing around

the car wasnt practical at all.... the B4 however has slightly less power in standard form (much more potential) and has the suspension already there, yet rides very smoothly and the exhaust is dead quite..... i love it...... granted the bug is still here, i love to use the B4's power (i tend to only use the first turbo day to day) and i will do the CAI and EcuTech to try to pull some more out of it, but thats where ill draw the line, that and the brakes ! (omg they are shocking !! the laser stoped on a dime, but a good set of 4 pots should fix this big_smile )

but yea the bug is still here, its changed and settled, but i dont think it will ever leave smile i hope not !

Sometimes we just need to remember what the rules of life really are:
You only need two tools: WD-40 and Duct Tape
If it doesn't move and should, use WD-40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use Duct Tape.

My car is by no-means really quick but i love it and i spend a lot of time looking for things to make it go better. I love it. It is something that i'm interested in so I'm happy to spend the money on it. I can't see myself getting sick of it. If i get sick of this car I could always then buy something bigger and quicker.
