Which Insurance Company

  Top of Page

the b4 beast is out of lease in april and i've decided to buy it out, as i've spent a lot of $$ over the years on her. just getting a feel for peoples opinions on different insurance company's out there.prices etc etc
i'm mid thirty soon, have made a couple of small claims in the past nothing huge though.
only issue will be my past history. extensive  driving record  including  more fines  than i could possibly remember and 1 or 2  convictions thrown in as well. (o.k maybe more )
i know RACV and AAMI aren't to forgiving but was wondering about SHANNONS perhaps might be.
so what am i in for ya reckon. any suggestions or recommendations for insurance would be much appreciated.
cheers cracka

Cracka,
I have found Shannons to be excellent.
We have 4 cars with them (2 historic and 2 daily drives) and our house too.
They seem ok on price but we have had 2 claims with them (one write off) in the last 6 months and they have been excellent.
Our panel beater loves them too as the assessor doesn't run the job down which allows him to repair it properly. There are some insurance companies he will not deal with for this reason.
Example, our 02 RX got a small scrape on the LHR quater panel smaller than a sheet of A4 paper. The repair involved repainting the roof (front, rear and side glass out) both rear quarters and the boot. About $3k all paid on insurance. The assessor allowed it as nobody wanted the blend to show up later on. Very happy.
We also have all the cars on protected no claim so any claims do not increase our premium and with 4 you get a multi car discount.
House cover is good and has little extras tailored to cars nuts.

My advice would be talk to panel beaters as these are the people you really need when you make a claim.

Cheers
J

I hadn't insured a car for 28yrs, Shannons gave me 60% straight up....$545 per yr for 15g, way better than any of the so called good insurers, best RAC could come up with was about $700 for 9g & they wouldn't take mods into consideration.

I've always found shannons do be very good (although i havn't made a claim with them) and $100's cheaper.  I have heard only good things from people in the industry.

I have had Allianz for awhile now with only one claim (write off VT wagon and I was not the driver) and they were great, no hassles, but then again I'm over 35 with a spotless driving record.

With Shannons, you really have to push the enthusiast angle.  I've been really happy with them but they couldn't match AAMI for the Liberty.  The MX-5 and Celica are insured under them, though.

I've had my Brock insured with Shannons for 5 years now. Last year I bought a BMW 320 for the Mrs and they insured it, with a discount on the Brock. I purchased a B4 last week and did an online quote with AAMI out of curiosity. $2,200 for $20K, and I'm on 65% NCB and 40. Rang Shannons, and had the B4 insured for $881, with a further multi car discount on the all 3 cars.
I have no problems with Shannons. I even told them about a traffic infringement in 2006, when I rang last year to insure the BMW and they asked if I had any since. I said No, and they were okay with this. Didn't charge me extra premium.

They will insure daily's, but you need to have at least one classic/muscle car with them, by the sounds of it.

Cheers,
Harry

Shannons would insure me for this car as my daily drive and i told them that i was part of OzLiberty and they were fine with it.  They were a bit more expensive then two others though. Just car were the cheapest but sting you for bad history.  I would recommend giving LSV a call, they are just like Shannons only a lot bigger if you take England into consideration.

Shannons rock! i got a crappy skyrine as a daily and it now cost me less to insure it and the b4 than it used to cost just for the b4 when it was my daily. B4 now cost less cause it limited use and skyrine is like 130 or something a year for third party. I dont think i had to really jump through any hoops to join from memory, and they were easily the cheapest for full comp on the b4.

I just got an online quote with shannons to compare them with allianz and shannons were about $100 cheaper but not sure they have free windscreen cover, rental car, etc so all in all about the same
