Where to start tuning???

  Top of Page

Hey guys,

I've just joined the ozliberty family and i've found all the answers and feedback you give really helpful so i'm hoping that you can throw some of the knowledge this way.
I recently bought my first Subaru Liberty, a 2003 GX, i bought it standard and i am stuck with what parts/tuning/accessories to put on it and if its worthwhile doing so. I've been looking at tinting as a start and then rims and possibly exhaust, but from there.....no clue. So whats the call? Cheers guys.

hey mate
congrats on the purchase

As for mods, what you have listed is all thats worth doing to a N/A Liberty along with a chip of some sort.
If you after alot more power, ditch the engine for a turbo'd one.

Yeah thanks heaps for that, i knew it probably wasnt worthwhile doing up a N/A too extreme, but it was my first Liberty and i felt i had to start somewhere. I guess i'll move up the ranks eventually and get in some awesome rides like im seeing on this site. Thanks for the tips guys, any more you have please feel free to throw them this way. Cheers

Do the brakes and suspension..  then chuck a rex engine in it..  you'll look like a low-key Kosti with more oomph.

Enjoy!

hey welcome,

theres not a huge amount you can do to an NA thats value for money, but freeing up the intake and exhaust would be the first things id do and will gain the most performance.

Go the GX!!

My opinion

For show/Bling/Rice etc:

Tint
Wheels
Exhaust (it is an N/A, but will still sound nice)
Front Strut Brace (it makes a difference, but its very very little IMO and looks shiny)
Audio system - NEW HEAD UNIT!!!!!
Lighting - HID's, clear/smoke indicators etc (neon should = ban)

Handling: Can't recommend this enough. I wouldn't go for the anti-lift kit again.. Gets kinda bumpy at times.

Upgrade sway bars, links etc
New shocks (replacement(depending on kms) or after market)
New springs
(or coil overs)
New rotors - ie DBA4000 6x6
"Performance" brake pads
4pot WRX/Skyline (r32??) calipers <-- Ill get some one day

General performance(ish) kinda:

Clutch (Aftermarket HD organic is fine for the N/A)
Flywheel
Read xxb4xx's N/A performance upgrade thread $$$

As has already been mentioned, if you want true performance, ditch the N/A and get a WRX motor dropped in. The gain in power from most "chips" is minimal from what I have seen online. Not used one myself, so I can't really comment, but I doubt the performance gain is really worth the $$
