What to buy ????

  Top of Page

Hi Guys and Girl,

Coming from the fozz scene i would have no clue. I have $4k to spend on a daily driver while the fozz takes a rest. Which model ? what years? and what should i look for as in common problems?

cheers Nath

For that price I'd say you'll probably only be able to get a Gen1 or very early Gen2?

Welcome to the sister site.

You'd be lucky to get into an example with under 200k for that mate. The good thing about the liberty is alot of the owners are long time owners, and seem to take good care of their cars (Obviously not all).

I'm sure you've already perused CarSales website. There is a '90 GX sedan thats done 170k, and that is 5k. Could probably drive away in it for 4.

I'm looking myself at the moment for the same thing. Seems they linger above 5/6 grand for a low k's well kept example.

Cheers,
Nik

Datsun 180B. 1978.

For four clicks, you'd be in Gen1 FWD sedan liberty country. Maybe a rough FWD Wagon. If you do find an AWD variant, it'll be really high in mileage.

If I were you: Brumby. big_smile

This is going to be a daily driver.... with little temptation to mod. If it were to be the brumby i couldnt help myself and would drop a 2lt sti motor in it and the wife would try and kill me again.

I understand high KM but as i have seen and read there are lots of libs 300,000km and still going strong with little wrong which is very impressive. Ok so a gen 1 or 2 ...what are some common problems and areas to look at ?

Cheers Nath

Oil leaks!

If you get one, replace all engine seels!
Then it will run for another 300k+ kms!

I only suggested the brumby, as they're a great utility.

EA81 motors are stupidly easy and cheap to service.

they're economical if they're not mechanically harassed.

and they're as loyal and reliable as the next subaru.

I want to drop an EJ20T into one like anyone else here (hint: "chassis" rails need to be cut to fit motor, to clear heads, so not an easy conversion!)

Come to think of it, I have a friend who is selling his s2 G1 5 speed manual, its been reliable for him, perhaps something to consider?

NINJAEDIT: whoops, just realised you're in melbourne. Im sure you could find something like it around your way...
