What have I got myself into.

  Top of Page

Hi all, as the username says it's her (wife) '05, a garden variety Liberty 2.5i MY 05 our first Subaru, she takes delivery tomorrow.  The car has about 50k on the dial and looks a clean unit.  We're a little past the street machine stage of life but as the brand seems to  have somewhat of a cult following I'm looking forward to seeing what our mild subi delivers.

cheers all

Congrats on the purchase... U will definitely not be disappointed, comfortable , pretty fuel efficient when driving it nicely and very pleasing to the eye. One thing don't listen to people if they talk about the oil usage being extremely high, its a myth. smile

Thanks for the welcome Karlos, we were drawn to the model but I'm probably the worlds least dilligent car buyer, the sale went down like.

us: "we like the color"
car bloke: "you better drive it"
us: "good idea" (wife drove and liked it, lots)

So we bought it, I hadn't even opened the bonnet.  I had however opened the glove box and had a flick through the service book, all dealership work for what it's worth.

So it really is fingers crossed that we've got a good one, spoke to a couple of  mechanics regarding Subaru who where positive but said to be weary of very tall mileage stuff.

Welcome, you'll love the car.
Oil usage a myth? Well, this is what I've seen first hand.

Really, keep an eye on it, no joke. Don't be deterred but it can happen.

Welcome to the forum dude, not sure why they are even mentioning oil. Every Car can use oil.....and im sure you would have kept an eye on it anyway as you should with any car.
Enjoy the ride mate, well done on the choice of car.

Only mentioned it as it is the number one thing people complain about with gen 4's. Personally never seen oil usage as a problem but cant speak for every1 else, sorry i brought it up.:fool: .  But whole heartedly agree should keep an eye out on oil .
Again welcome to the forum Great Car you have bought.

Why's that?
I've seen Gen 1, 2 and 3's, EA81 and EA82 cars with 300,000km+ and still on original rings, bearings etc.....

Only real problem was the Gen 2's with with 2.5 DOHC motor, headgaskets where pretty common.

Has the 50k service been done on the car?
If it hasn't, get ready for a $500+ bill.

Nothing to see here....

Thanks for the welcome folks, it's an indication that we're traveling in good company. I like the way owners of the earlier Gen cars fly the flag so passionately, makes me feel like starting a project.

re the service shepp, the dealer - don't laugh - assures me that it has been done at a VACC workshop.

I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions regarding the best options for servicing so you'll be hearing from me.

Update:

Took possesion of the car today and very pleased with it indeed, a really nice package.
Early impression's are 1. how secure you feel within the thing and 2. the general togetherness of the ride.
The wife and me both are really looking foward to putting some country km's on the clock.
