what do you guys think of Shell V Power?

  Top of Page

Well guys ,

i am not a big fan of Shell fuels and i had severe pinging problems with optimax before. but this new V Power stuff seems allright . Supposed to be a replacement for optimax. I have been using it for the last 3 tanks and my B4  seems more responsive and less pinging under heat. ( 38 C yesterday).
No ethanol and still 98 octane.

Let me know if you guys tried it and what you think of it ?

Regardless of what people say, I think Shell is good

I get good mileage and less pinging with Optimax / V-Power, my car also feels more responsive.

BP I get bad mileage
Mobile 98 is ok
Caltex 98 is ok also

I went though a few tanks of it, and in the heat OMG did my car ping its tits off!
I have been hitting engine cut, and its been running like crap!
I think there could be more issues then just the fuel, so i have gone back to Vortex 98, and see how it goes.

I have tried them all,

*Shell - car pings like a tin can down stairs
*Mobil - felt sorry for the car after I poured it in, Pinged and didnt Move!
*BP (Favourite) not that good mileage but thats prob because the car like burning it, No pinging, but good repsonse also,

keep in mind I used the 98ron of all companies, and every tank I pour i put in a bottle of wynns 104+ octane boost, raises it by about 5 points, I always have and always will, works a treat in my Libby

meaning my car is always running around 103ron.

Sold the Subaru, replaced it with a Honda.. but all I know is Subaru's! (and Holden V8's of course):secret:

Re: what do you guys think of Shell V Power?

I have been told and this has happened in my b4. When you use octane booster's in the B4's, it chews the plugs. The plugs become orange and then you get miss firing and burping. This happend to my car and that is the reason why i put the Haltech Interceptor on, to stop chewing plugs and using octane boosters!!!!

Back on track. Ive had the same thing with the shell optimax previously with getting bad quality fuel. This new stuff is dead set awesome. Im trying to get back and use the 100 octane stuff cause my car LOOOVES it and i haven't had any issues with the use of it. But even the Vpower is awesome. Shell have picked up the ball again!!!!

Yeah B4 and the STI can’t use the 100 V-power because of the ethanol in it, they say it effects the fuel system.

I think its cause that haven’t done any testing so its safer to say no!!

isn't v-power just a renamed optimax as v-power is the name elsewhere in the world?

lately my choice has been BP ultimate as my local servo never puts prices up on wednesday nights until after my pay has gone in. that's nice of them. so if i pay a buck nineteen for ultimate, the next day regular has gone up to a buck nineteen.

I have found V-power gives me better economy and better throttle response.

Seems like we are all getting mixed results.

happy new year all

Subaru (i have a friend who works in Subaru`s engineering dept)has tested it in a 2001 b4 and it ended up with starting problems The ethanol will also damage the rubber sections of the fuel lines. here in japan the 100 octane fuel does not have any ethanol in, when i am home i only use caltex or bp......goodluck shane
