Ive been considering doing the same thing when I respray mine (whenever it happens)

There is a colour that lexus puts out in the is250 it is like an ice colour.
white pearl with blue. looks really nice (it is not the normal pearl ad blue but still same concept and looks the goods)

I would go blue or pink but depending on how much of the colour you are puting in the mix.

I will go blue... only as I like the lexus colour

Thats alright mate, sorry that does seem a little harsh now that i read it.

Subarooliberty - The Lexus color is a 3 layer pearl. Which means it uses a transparent pearl coat to achieve the pearl effect.

Basically the procedure is as follows.

Car prepped, primed, blocked, and ready for color.
You then apply a base coat. With this particular color it will be a solid white base coat. After you achieve complete coverage and the color has "coloured out" you then apply the transparent peal. Normally i only use one coat, as too much results in a horrible grainy looking effect.
After the pearl coat is applied you then move onto the clear. Which is what gives the finish its durability/gloss/peel.

The transparent pearl actually contains the secondary colour.

Personally, I think a Blue pearl is the way to go.
In the black, it will make it look immensely deep, like a still lake at night time.
It will also make the white look much cleaner. Perhaps give it a cold look as well.

if you use anything that is derived from a red, the black will turn brown.
The blue will show up, but you'll need a lot of it.

Simple way to think of black is this.

There are two type's of black.
Blue Black
and
Red Black.

Red  blacks are typically the cheaper type. As red is more common to come by in the natural environment.
The problem with red blacks, is that in direct light, it looks brown or not very deep.

Blue blacks are the best of the lot, the tinter's are harder to come by/cost more to produce, thus they cost more.
But they are the deepest black you can get. Totally dependent on the purity of the tinter of course, but a simple way of putting it is, a Blue black will always be blacker than a red black. No matter how you go about it. Its down to the way each color reflects the light, and that subject can fill a whole other thread, so I'll leave it there.

Ahh okay.

Might be the top of the line for Protec.

But Protec themselves aren't really that flash. Kind of 2nd rate IMO.

My personal preference is for Glaserit(sp?), Dupont and PPG.
I've only ever used Protec on cheaper jobs.

How well do you know the painter?
Because that roof is mottled as fk.

I dunno wtf they've done there, i have NEVER managed to get pearl to do that. It would take tonnes of the stuff. Seriously.

Re: what color pearl should i get?

Look at the rails on the roof.
See the dark and light patches?
Thats because:

A: He didn't paint it
B: He didn't apply the paint evenly and the pearl has grouped together.

But it just plain looks like his didn't put enough there.
Which is strange, because you really shouldn't need THAT much pearl. It looks as if he's tried to color it out, as if it were a base coat.

I seriously have never seen that happen before.
