Weakening a BOV spring

  Top of Page

I've just bought a TurboSmart type 2 BOV off a guy on here.
The trouble is that it only goes psshhh at over 10psi, and therefore
goes sususususu (doesn't open) when driving normaly, which i find kind of annoying.

And yes it is wound all the way out.
So my question is does anyone know how i could weaken the spring so that it opens at a
lower psi?

get a bov more suited to your application or find some different springs.
just note that if you go too soft it will leak under boost

weakening the current spring as such is not an option as then you run into all sorts of problems and potential faliure, as was said either get a more suitable bov or see if the suplier sells different rated springs, what psi are you wanting it to open at and why? and yeah if you go too weak youll run into problems aswell it will open under boost and thatll annoy you more trust me, there is no perfect example with bov's as with anything mechanical its all about compromise and they arent designed to open EVERY time you lift off the throttle, personally it would drive me mad hearing psssht everytime i changed gear especially when driving past the constabulatory...... but thats just my two cents

Well obviously i did it for the sound.
It's not one with a trumpet, so it's not really all that loud.
It's the flutter from when it doesn't open that i don't really like.

lol id never heard the spoonfull of concrete and viagra comments before and i must say... I LOVE IT LOL flutter imho SOUNDS better than pshht BUT do the research behind it, may not be such a good thing...
plumb it back mate, negligible difference between vented to atmosphere and plumb back plus its LEGAL
or buy a bov new, second hand idnt always the best (picking up something because its cheap may often cost you more in the end as youve found out)
im not having a go buddy i just believe in doing research before buying anything wether it be a tv or a turbo, know what your buying, why your buying it and if its right for you maybe chalk this one up to lesson learnt and do some research when or if you buy another bov.

Yeah i know second hand can cost more in the lone run, but i didn't even know if i would like it. So i didn't want to spend heaps then find out that i don't like it. And i knew it wouldn't go any faster.
