Want cheap servicing?

Get a job at a fleet company!

I work for one of Australia's largest fleet companies, and having recently bought a subaru, I was curious what a "preferred" dealer could do in terms of a good price for a service.

So before I took the car in for a 137,500km service (+ Brake & clutch fluid + throttle body clean to stop sticking throttle + puncture repair LHR) I worked out how much it would cost as a retail job...

So here goes.

Labour:
- Service -                     1.5 hours @ $115inc GST = $172.50
- Brake / Clutch fluid -   0.4 hours @ $115inc GST = $46
- Throttle body clean -  0.5 hours @ $115inc GST = $57.50 (intercooler has to come off to access)
- Alternator Belt Cracked - 0.2 hours @ $115inc GST = $23
- Puncture repair - approx $15inc GST

Total labour = $319

Parts:
Oil Filter - $15
Upper engine cleaner - $17
Brake/Clutch fluid - $10
Alternator Belt - $30
Carby cleaner for T/body - $12

Total Parts = $84

P.O.L's
Engine Oil - $38
Workshop supplies - $7.50
Environment Levy - $7.50

Total = $53

Estimated Total: $454 inc GST

Actual price with the 'You-work-at-a-fleet-company' discount: $244.50 inc GST

Totally worth getting an average wage every week! :swoon2:

+1 for diy

+1 for trade prices cos you work in the auto industry. wink

+10000000 for NOT getting it serviced at a dealer to save bucketloads (unless you work there).

Got one of them, but don't think it'll help me much with my 100K service - so the retail boys can have that one.

I'll stick to doing my own brake pads smile

I'm too lazy and too scared of f**king something up.
Why do it yourself on a saturday when you could be out playing golf or downing pots by the beach?
Plus, i like the added bonus of a respectable stamp in the service book.
They might be thieves to retail customers (guy in front of me was forking over $1100 for something) but a complete service history is a nice back up if you are looking at 2nd hand cars.
