teaching them to be useless???...most of them already are

from my experiences in the last 2 weeks while ive been off uni (driven about 1500kms:shok:) i have lost all faith in the general public's ability to drive

right lane hoggers,
not moving over to let people merge,
managing to take up 2 spaces when parking
cutting corners on multilane corners/roundabouts
tailgating in the wet,
leaving high beams on intentionally,
and an overall lack of common sense being used when driving.

Volvo and Lexus have both showed this technology before.

It's a sad day when you need parking sensors to not hit things, let alone have your car park itself.

Hi,

Has been around for a while I s'pose. As mentioned, Volvo, Lexus and I'm pretty sure BMW have all displayed this tech before.

Also, the Lexus that is equipped is on show at the motor show at the moment (Perth). Priced at a quarter of a million dollars, cheaper to just pay more on insurance...

Smart stuff though.

Cheers,
Nik

Lexus do have a self parking system, but it requires you to be in the car and you have to change the gears (forward and reverse) This system works independantly of the driver and you can actually stop, get out of the car and lock it, press a button on a control, it will identify the car space then park itself, engaging forward and reverse gears.
This is the most advanced park system available at the moment, as its the only system that can park without the driver being in the vehicle at the time.

Yes, its not far of the car actually driving its self is it?

One can see how this technology could be used to drive a car down a highway with relative ease.
Next generation cruise control?

Hi,

How long do you think it would take for a self driving highway to be implemented? The ONLY way it will work is if EVERY single car on the road is under the same system.

Do you really think that stubborn classic car drivers will simply stop driving?

Doubt it.

BMW has a car that can drive flat out around a track with noone in it, check TopGear, and pretty much YouTube for footage.

Nik

You'll find BMW is far ahead of this.

Self driving technology has already been tested in the US, I think it was GM who tested on an american highway a car that could actually drive without assistance from a driver, I had a press release about it quiet a while ago now,

I have seen the BMW that can drive itself that was a pretty good video,
You are right but, I dont think a self driving car will operate on our roads any time soon at all, people really are just too stubborn and enjoy driving.
