VIN number decoder?

Any SUBARU VIN decoders around so I can find out what year my car is? The car was bought not too late in '97 yet has the '98 look.

Just ring up a subaru parts department, they should be able to help you.
For some car makers there model year starts halfway through the calender year.
The car was probably built in 97 calender year. But the 98 model year may have started halfway through 97.

can't you open the passenger door and look down in the bottom corner where there should be a metal stamp showing the manufacture date?
It's there on mine

That means nothing, I had an Impreza with 1993 0n the door but it was sold on Dec 30'th 1994, that's when the shell is made in Japan, usually Subi's change model year around September the year before the MY, so a car could be Oct 97 Vin but it's a MY98 model even though officially it's still a 1997 car.

I should have read this properly, 95/96 were the same & 97/98 were the updated series 2 so it will look like a 98.
