Vic Roads Irregularity

  Top of Page

Hey,

Just wondering if anybody else has had a letter from Vicroad's (those in Victoria anyway), about any irregularities with the rego of their vehicle?

The letter goes on to read.....

Vicroads requires me to present my vehicle for inspection to asses the vehicle against its records and to asses its compliance with the standards for registration - that is to confirm that the vehicle complies with saftey, occupant protection and emmision requirements. You will need to take along your drivers licence as proof of identity and allow a whole day for your vehicle to be inspected. There is no charge for this inspection.

When your vehicle has been inspected, Vicroads will provide you with a report within 10 working days, indicating any deficiencies which will need to be rectified in respect to compliance with the standards for registration and roadworthiness.

If deficiences relate to the standards for registration, vicroads will either reimburse you the costs or arrange for a signatory to Vicroads vehicle assesment signatory scheme (VASS) to invoice Vicroads directly. Vicroads will not pay for the costs to rectify any roadwothiness defixiencies as it is your responsibility to maintain your registered vehicle in a road worthy condition. When the required work is completed the vehicle will need to be re-presented for inspection.

If there are no problems, you will not have to do anything further.

Please note that until the vehicle is presented for inspection, Vicroads may refuse an application for transfer of registration or rego renewal at the end of the current rego period.

The VIN number supplied to vicroads is correct and I have owned this car for over 3 years now with no issues at all. (other than losing a few points speeding).

When i bought this car from a DEALER, there was NO compliance plate attached, and vicroads never asked when it was transfered?

Any ideas guys??

is your car lowered, loud, do you do regular laps of the same street?

sounds to me like you've had a few people call and complain about your car and vicroads wants to do a roady on it. just sounds better if they say all that crap in the letter.

its like getting your car or truck reported to the EPA, they send you a letter saying you have to present your vehicle for inspection.

is it by any change a rebodied legacy jap model and regoed as a liberty? does the vin start with rep than the numbers because if its the silver wagon you are trying to sell and its regoed as a 97 model  from the photos it looks to be around a 94 model

how can you tell the diff between a 94 and a 97, still a bg5 yeah? vin number starts with "6T9", rego cert says 1997 Subaru S Wagon. orignally advertised by a dealer in clarendon st when i bought it as a '97 Legacy GT Wagon.

its got the fold in heated mirrors, all the jap writing on the visor and a few other places as well, thats why i was lead to belive it was a genuine import.

there was a bunch of this crap goin on in VIC a few years ago, it caused a few legacys off the road as they wouldnt pass.

the issue in vic was that some cars were inported and sold without the suitable compliance mods, or not approved for import properly.
so theyre doing this to try and find them all.

i would payup for another 12 months ontop of what youve allready got if its not got any paperwork with it or doesnt have a yellow personal import or a blue (i think its blue) import plate or sticker.
then go through and see whet happens.

if its got approved import papers and a sticker or plate youll have nothing to worry about, unless its got illegal mods.

I'd ring VicRoads and try and find out what their real agenda is.

If the car was advertised/sold with incorrect details you'd have to have some recourse on the dealer - check with a lawyer or call Consumer Affairs...

Cheers,
Dave

if its got jap seat belts check the date mark on the white tags at the bottom and the car will be around that age and a 97 model will have a latch style bolt in side the back doors at the bottom to the back of the door jam

ok so tried to get a replacement windscreen yesterday, windscreen obriens came and half got the screen out, until he releasied that it had a heater element in the laminate, quote for oem windscreen from japan $700 and 6 weeks wait, a screen from NZ $1500-1700 and at least a weeks wait.

So i am pretty sure its a true grey import now. what a F$%K around.

Thanks VICROADS

Ok so got the letter back from vic roads, after taking it for the "1st" inspection.

Pretty lame really, all they have got me for is minor roadworthy stuff, tint need to come off all the rear windows (says its 9% should be 35%) handbrake needs adjusting, mirror is loose, and front rim is buckled - repair or rectify.

The kicker is that they are changing the year from a '97 to a '94.

So, am going to see a solicator to get them to write a letter to the dealer that i bought it off, i bought it under the perception that it was a '97 model, not a '94.

What a laugh!!!

When i saw your wagon it had later ('97) model seats and trim. The same bolstered seats as in a GTB. Is this the way you bought it?

Re: Vic Roads Irregularity

yeh, I had this problem about 5 years back... the problem was that these cars weren't properly being rebuilt/repaired and the scheme was scrapped.

the VIN numbers that were affected started 6T9REPV or 6T9REBLD or something of that nature.

By true accounts, these cars were meant to be Australian chassis that has had Japanese spec equipment put on it, hence the term REBUILD.

Whilst the Repair Vehicles were damaged Australian chassis that has been repaired and had Japanese spec equipment put on it, hence term REPAIR VEHICLE

Once it was found out that the guidelines weren't being followed, and some vehicle weren't even making the migration to the donor Australian vehicles, VicRoads decided to close this scheme and do a full check on all REPV and REBD vehicles.

With my vehicle, they were quite harsh (1993 Subaru Legacy GT), and I had a long list of repairs to make, which included side door intrusion bars. All up, I had $4500 worth of repairs to make on a car that was only worth $10,000, so I gave up and sold it as parts.

So beware when buying these vehicles. If the car has a YELLOW compliance plates, then you have no problems... that has been complied properly...

i havent touched the car since i bought it from a dealer, when i bought it I was also told that it was a private import, the last owner actually imported it himself.

But Vicroads has said nothing about a compliance plate (which it does NOT have).

Re: Vic Roads Irregularity

i think there were some issues with two cars regoed with the same yellow plate no (not the vin just the plate no) as well and all these things were rampant in vic in the late 90s dodgy engineers that have since been struck off

so do your rego papers say legacy or liberty in vehicle model section

Re: Vic Roads Irregularity

on the transfer sheet sent to Vicroads when i bought the car say make:subaru model: Legacy GT, the other funny thing is that vic roads say that the engine number is different to what they have but again the transfer form has the correct number. I wonder how long RWC have to be kept for, or if i could get the orignal copy to verify the tint on the windows. ahh and still dont have a compliance plate, nothing was mentioned in the letter as well.
