We have friends in Kinglake. Lucky they got out. Its mind boggling the extent of the damage. My thoughts go to all those affected.

Good to hear ur friends are ok mate.  Yeh just seeing the footage etc, its hard to imagine how quickly the fires hit and the extent of damage and lost of life is horrific.

I'm only 25min from Hurstbridge which starts the national park, the amount of ash, and smoke smell is unbelivalbe, good friends up St Andrews way r still on standby to leave their place. Other friends towards Lake Mountain r telling me it's like a war zone, cars, houses, animals all laying around burnt. From memory Ben is on the otherisde of Kinglake township, hopefully he is ok. Yep, I'm in too, on a charity drive, even do a sat or sun where we go up and lend a hand in clearing, the area means alot to me, those who lit the fires should be hung up and stoned.

From what i read though, they prefer that we not drive in there as it hinders the CFA etc efforts, even though our intentions are good.  They recommend we make cash donations to their fund in the interim.  Still, i'm sure many ppl would love to lend a hand than donations.

Let me know when the stoning occurs, i'll be front of line.

I saw last night at midnight that Marysville was gone and i was shocked. alot of memories out that way, first camping trip with the family, first trip to the snow and first long drive in the suby.

Hope all members and family are fine.

its stressful trying to get a hold of people you know that live in the affected areas.

I think it will be a good idea to do a cruise up in coming weeks to help out.

I am shocked with these fires. So many lives have been lost, so many people affected it is just shocking.

And these fires are getting close to my home! in Gippsland! The last fires a couple of weeks ago got with in 3 hours burn of our farm, and then the fires near Yarram in South Gippsland got even closer until the wind changed.

We have got family friends in Yarram who sent us these photos:

and here is a vid of the Yarram fires towards the end you can see the fires and how close they get to the town

I am lucky, I live in Melbourne.

My parents live on the farm, so I have been pretty worried about them, and our house.

The farm is in Woorarra West which is south of Boolarra where the first Gippsland fires where.

As you can see here they cost close:

http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j134/rxliberty2000/Fires2009005.jpg

Our area has not had a fire though it since 1939, there is SO much unburnt fuel on the ground that if and when a fire comes though its going to be a big one.

Our farm as plenty of water and a fire hose to try and protect the place, but we wont try too hard to save it. Far to dangerous esp with the bush pretty much right to the house and farm sheds.

So do I.

You can guarantee that if the fire does head our way again, I will down there to help clear out the farm and try and save as much stuff as we can!

Re: VIC Fires.

Would Admin Mod's / Members be cool if I setup an ozlib fund for the fires affecting any members / family that have been affected?

or we can donate it all to any funds that are up at the moment on behalf of Ozlib as a club?

I can setup a Bank account with a BSB and ACCT for internet transfer?

What are your thoughts? or would you like to go on it on your own?

Cheers
Brendan

Just remember mate your life is worth much more than a building. Enough people have died already, just get out well before the fire comes.

We know we wont be able to save the buildings.

Its more the old school cars that we have got that is worth saving.

Mickey mate why not shift them now, so you don't have anything to worry about?
Easier to move them back later if nothing happens, than to rush around trying to get it done at the last minute and then running out of time...

Yeah we have moved some, but due to the amount of cars we have, its a little hard to get space for something that hasn't happened.

FYI Toll (logistics) are taking a few trucks of stuff over to Vic from Perth. Anything received by them tomorrow 9-6 will be freighted for free. Non-perishable foods, clothes, small furniture items, toys etc. Anything to alleviate the immediate losses before insurances kick in.

EDIT: Its not Toll, I believe it is NRL Freightlines and Express Logistics, in conjunction with the Salvation Army..
