vehicle restrictions

  Top of Page

I just got my green Ps, and say if i bought an RS but put the car under my parents name and drive it, (since turbo cars are restricted now :angry2: ) if cops pull me over for an RBT or something whats the worse that can happen lol
I really want an rs and have enough to get 1 atm but don't want to w8 to get my full license :russian_r .
seeing how there are lots of other green ps out there with turbo cars from before that restriction came in, u guys think the chances of a cop actually checking under the bonnet are high lol..not to mention the area i live in, i would be pretty much the only person to own an rs in my suburbs lol..cops probaly won't even no its turbo since there are alot of GXs around smile
Think i can get away with it? :mda:

it's probably best you stick to NA while you're still new to driving. and save like hell for the day you lose your P's.

i'm sure if you got pinged driving a turbo the penalty would be pretty harsh. why not save the extra few $$$ while owning an NA then go nuts when you're off the P's?

Hey mate I know how you feel. My best mates friend was over the power weight ratio down here. The cops give a hefty fine if they catch you again they will give you another and If they get you again you will get another and go to court on a repeated offense. Then you can have a criminal record. Its not worth it.

So to get around this you have 2 option either go for something with allot of power and non turbo like a non turbo supra i think thats legally fine for you guys.

However if you have your heart set on the RS once the cops see the scoop in the bonnet and green P plate they will pull you over. You could always install a BLACK FMIC with some black mesh in front of it and the standard GX bonnet. This will get rid of most  cop attention and of course you will get performance gains.

I hope that helped and gave you some points to consider.

Cheers

Troy smile

The P plater restrictions in NSW are a bit different to VIC. Basically if you're caught driving a turbo or modified car while on your restricted licence, you cop a $384 fine, and lose 7 points, which is the entirety of your licence.
Basically its up to you. If you're confident that you'll never get pulled over and inspected then go for your life, but if the cops pop the hood its going to be quite obvious to them that it's a turbo car, and then you're pretty screwed...

They didn't do it before the restrictions no. I think there should be something on your licence that says you have the vehicle restrictions. I'm guessing as soon as they see that they'll go over your car with a fine toothed comb smile

I think its on the back, im a P plater but ive been driving for quite a while now so the restrictions dont apply to me.
On the back it says conds then underneath (for me) Note - Provisional restricted to Zero BAC limit. I would imagine it would be there with that note.

Spot on.

And yes, on the back of the license it says Conditions - Provisional drive must not drive Prohibited Vehicles

Then when u lose your license you will have to start again on your Red's. Not worth it at all. And also, was looking ovper the new laws coming in on July first, and there is an inclusion for the Provisional 2 plates
Passengers – The one passenger condition applies to provisional licence holders disqualified for a driving offence. After the disqualification period, you will be restricted to carrying no more than one passenger at all times while driving, for 12 months.
Which means, if you have had your license suspended... you can only carry 1 passenger..at ALL TIMES.

WTF is with these colour codes on P plates.  What happen to the good ole simple L and P plates?  They planning to make it as confusing as those BS grading systems from schools?  :mda:

We don't have any rules like that over here (perth), I've seen heaps of P platers cruising around in daddy's new HSV or new STI with no probs, well not until they wrap it around a pole that is...

You see a sh!tload of P-platers in Skylines and XR6T around also.  Ironic how the law prevents such yet insurance (IE JustCars) targets this crowd.

I'm sure there are plenty of good p-platers out there but unfortunately, there are also plenty of hoons out there which become road statistics which give p-platers a bad rep.  With these new hoon-laws about, just not worth the trouble on getting an RS whilst on P's mate.  Get some experience behind the wheel first before you jump into a performance car and do all road-users a favour; most importantly, urself.

Sure thing. In NSW it goes like this:
L plates - Minimum of 6 months (I THINK - it was a while ago now...)
Red P plates - minimum of 12 months
Green P plates - minimum of 24 months
Black (full) licence.

The cops have asked me to point out the turbo when my car was N/A. I told them there wasnt one and i wished it had one then they defected me for exhaust being too loud lol.

Ahh ok.

And why have two colours for P-platers rather just the one colour?  Is there a change in the type of cars you can drive once you've gone from red to Green?  Or are the cops just colour blind and need the different colours to know who they can pick on?

They pick on any p plater regardless of colour or driving record... in Sydney anyway. It just means its harder for the youth to hold onto a licence as they have to go through 3 years of  Provisional driving...Police targeting them.
Same restrictions apply to both red and green about the types of cars they are allowed to drive however if you had your green p's before they passed their stupid law then you are able to drive any car you like or have.

ahh cheers for the clarification.  And its not just in Sydney mate.  I've seen plenty of 'random' roadworthy checks in Vic where i see an Integra Type R, Supra, Skyline being inspected (skyline and type R seems stock) but ironically, they wave thru a rust-bucket of a car with the bumper dangling off thru.  Fortunately they seem oblivious to the B4 so i cruised right thru behind the rust-bucket.  big_smile

Funny you should mention this but i dont know if anyone here goes to the runs...but i went once in my tt wagon, cops showed up as always im driving off and they did not even look at me (which is a first). My advice to everyone in nsw driving a boxer keep the exhaust to a minimum you can still get same performance without going ridiculously loud.
