+1 for any car dealership.

never used a valet service before. i like to park myself, in a single end bay against a wall, leaving the greatest margin possible between my car and the only other car that can park beside it. wink

I absolutely hate the idea of it. A post on another forum where a member mentioned that he worked valet and got to drive a Porsche or something of similar ilk really erked me when he intimated that he drove the vehicle something other than sedately... Really fires me up. :angry2:

"Subaru service"! What an oxymoron!

Can't wait to have some datalogging on board for anytime other than me driving. Have heard reports of bandits at places like Bob Jane having a crack too... Gets me really angry!!!  :butcher:

Magus, what the hell are you doing over here?

I agree with you, the idea of anyone flogging the car just erks me. Though once I pick it up I have no problem laying a nice strip out of the service centre...

Just to show my appreciation for the $40 paper air filters....

Im a nice guy.

Re: Valet Service

the last time I had a valet service was at the meriton apartments in the CBD (sydney)

I refused to let the guy drive the B4, so I got the mrs out with our bags, and the maggot got in with me, to make sure I parked in the right area,

once parked he insisted I left the keys with reception / him,

I gave him the keys and told him the car has a pin code, when he asked for the pin, I laughed and told him, the best your gonna get is the keys.. from there you can push the car to wherever you need to..

He wasn't impressed, but either must his parents have been for giving birth to a head like his.

Hahaha, gold XX.

I've never used Valet. Got offered it, and thought it better to keep my $2 tip and drove 30ft to park it myself big_smile. It was a $1000 car, but it was my $1000 car wink

Which Meriton are you talking? There are three or four in Sydney no?

Last time I checked, it was about 700/night.

Thus my comment that the next car could well have been a high end Porka.

I could be wrong though. It's happened before.

Re: Valet Service

i was a valet attendant for about a year at Eagle St Pier in Brisbane.

Valet has its good and bad.

i personally hate the idea of anyone driving my car.... even at the exhaust shop, driving it onto the hoist... i look on in anger. haha

but the job itself is cool.
Location for my old work was quite prestige area of brisbane so heaps of high roller business people and celebrities.

Driven EVERYTHING except a Lambo and a Ferrari.

Evo's / Lotus / Porsche / Brabus B8 Merc / 34 gtr's/ hummers/ aston martins/ etc
All The Common BMW/Merc/Holden/Audi Bulls**t all day every day

Funny thing is... a guy in a $300,000 hurls you $20 tip and the keys, and walks away..... says "take care of it"

and a guy ina s**tbox VN Commodore spends half an hour arguing with you about how safe the carpark is, and how the valets are the only ones with access to keys and the vehicles etc. LOL
Bogans.

Thanks for the post, this bit confirms what I had in mind.

I have been told by friends with expensive cars that tipping at the start is the smartest way of dealing with valet. Would you consider this to be true?

Cheers,
Nik

Re: Valet Service

In all honesty.

just being polite is the best.
i really enjoyed doing the job when people were polite, or sociable.

tipping is nice... but doesnt really get you any better service etc.
obviously, your gunna take care of all the cars there anyway, or your jobs on the line.

it realllly shat me when people go "dont f**ken scratch my car, dont pinch my s**t, your not gunna go do burnouts in it are ya, oh i dont trust you bastards with my car blah blah"

i would just say, if you arent happy leaving it here mate, take it elsewhere, i really dont need your bulls**t.

all in all.... 99.9% of valet attendants/carparks/hotels are good, and will look after your car
if you do have concerns, just voice them to the manager or something beforehand .... politely.

Bogans.
This here is my fundamental problem with valet or any service that requires someone else to drive my car. The car may present as a s**tbox to you, but it may also be that customer's pride and joy. One man's s**tbox is another man's dream ride!

If you get bandits arguing over the security of the place etc. etc. I can understand getting miffed at that, but monetary value is not the only value or worth associated with a car.

I'd put money on the fact that you didn't drive old mate's VN with the same mindset you did someone elses Porsche etc.

Re: Valet Service

i dont care if you have a $30 Sigma, or a $150,000 Merc.

At the end of the day, if my customers were polite, i would be polite to them.
same as anywhere...

i guarantee THERE ARE MORE ACCIDENTS AT YOUR LOCAL TYRE SHOP Than at any valet service at a dealer/carpark/hotel etc.

i drove dickheads vn the same as i did some regulars with m6's
him being a dickhead, or having a cheap car......didnt make me skid up his car, or scratch the s**t out of it.
it left exactly as it came in and i drove it sedately

Its a carpark, with speedhumps and concrete pillars...i couldnt have done anything more than 20kmh if i tried.

BUT, one day that dickhead in the VN is going to get an attendant who may very well treat his pride and joy with disresepect.... not because of his car.... because of his attitude

My job was to valet and park cars, which is what i did.... i didnt take any extra care of ones that were worth more.

YES plenty of people, who were unfamilar with a valet service..... HAD CONCERNS.... which usually we would explain how the system worked, why it was in place, the layout, the security in place. etc, and they could then be assured of the situation... 99% of people then left their cars in our care.....

if they were unhappy to leave it, they were more than welcome to either leave the carpark at no cost, or occasionally we could put them in a spot that was only a few spots away and they could park it themselves.

The piss off, were the people that disobeyed the 7x FULL signs, the neon full signs, the closed boomgate etc.... moved the signs, drove the car in and demanded we park it coz they had an important meeting. and of course those who spend 20 minutes arguing about leaving their car there.... holding up 50 cars behind them....who refused to go elsewhere.... had to repeat ourselves 200 times of what VALET meant.. but wouldnt leave their keys.
and then tried to box on with us....because we were doing out job
