I hear there's  a price slump across the board.

Small cars are probably holding up ok though, but they usually do don't they... That's purely a guess on my part mind you, I don't know for sure.

You're right Geoff. Redbook still has this car with more K's at $33.6-38.7K.

thats right, Our website is only a guide to the prices based on how many K's the car should have on it for its age if driven as a daily driver, a more detailed valuation based on lower Km would see a few thousand added to that I would be thinking

Saw it on the news..

Looks like so did these d1cks..  That car has 86k which is reasonably high I admit...  although the ad says low k's!  AND it's a DEALER!

I have more if you want more torture..  As originally posted there's a black GT wagon (MY04) for the same price..

that car was originally listed for $37,900 which is not to bad for its K's, it is dropped as a special to $29,900 which is definatly under what its worth. Sometimes Dealers cut their loses and sell cars cheaper then what they are worth just to move stock so that they can continually get fresh stock in. Channel 7 or 10 whichever it was have been in our office a few times for interviews for their story about the value of cars and IMO its blown way out of proportion. the large car market has dipped but not to the extent of what people have made it out to be it has also recovered somewhat in the last month or two. It is also true that small cars hold their value better because they start of at a cheap price to start with and are reasonably well equiped which tends to attract a larger audience so depreiciation is less then that of a larger car that starts off life at what can be over double the price (without talking exotics and Europeans) and target a smaller audience of buyers leading to increased depreciation.

Trust the press to sensationalise. I'm hoping that there is just a couple stand out cases and this isn't across the board. Hell, for the past 12 month period new car sales exceeded 1mil for the first time ever. Surely used cars are selling too, negating a market collapse in that segment.

As I said, buyers delight:

More EVIDENCE at SIX...

Now..  to see what sort of trade I'll get on that price..  I WANT that wagon!!  (99000 k's since late 03 ain't thaaat much is it?) wink

EDIT: For someone looking for a GenIV GT those prices are exceptional..  As befour rightly mentioned expect high k's..  and don't pay a cent extra for warranties, paintguard, carpet guard or other assorted margin getters..

It was created by used car dealers for used car dealers to rip the public off!

It wasn't created just for used car dealers at all, Prices you see are generally prices you can expect to pay, the Commercial side of pricing is a whole other story that has to be paid for.

Our Valuation certificates can be used as proof in court by anyone to fight insurance companies or any one for that matter regarding the value of a vehicle, if the courts can trust the red book then im sure other people can.

I have to agree with you - I stand corrected.  However the values in the book can be abused - e.g. use the lowest value for your trade and the highest value for the new wheels, no?

Re: Used car price slump.. buyers delight!

well to an extent that could be the case, your point is very valid I wont write you off for that. the figures on the website are a guide, someone wishing to sell their car would get a proper valuation certificate from us that would take into account the Km the car has done, the condition of the car and also any extra features that may be added to the car to give an accurate valuation of the price rather then a range that it would fall between. everyone knows what dealerships are like, try and buy for less then what the car is worth then sell at a high price. generally dealerships use a wholesale price rather then a national average price as it is the prices they can get the same car from the auctions at, which is significantly lower then what you would pay from a private seller.

Yes with the dealers it is all about the margins and they are absolute masters of deception.  When one adds insurance company values - agreed and market, there are potentially 8 different documented values for the same vehicle:
* Redbook lowest trade
* Redbook highest trade
* Redbook lowest dealer sale
* Redbook highest dealer sale
* Redbook lowest private sale
* Redbook highest private sale
* Insurance Market Value
* Insurance Agreed Value
Prices should be simplified LOL make one car worth 1 value LOL.. Like I know dealerships have to make money and what not but still, unless I was damn desperate I woulnt sell my car to a dealership. rather wait it out and get some extra $$$

And also the price of B4's should sky-rocket big_smilebig_smile that would be nice
