by befour on 22-08-07 01:05 PM thats right, Our website is only a guide to the prices based on how many K's the car should have on it for its age if driven as a daily driver, a more detailed valuation based on lower Km would see a few thousand added to that I would be thinking |

by befour on 22-08-07 02:28 PM that car was originally listed for $37,900 which is not to bad for its K's, it is dropped as a special to $29,900 which is definatly under what its worth. Sometimes Dealers cut their loses and sell cars cheaper then what they are worth just to move stock so that they can continually get fresh stock in. Channel 7 or 10 whichever it was have been in our office a few times for interviews for their story about the value of cars and IMO its blown way out of proportion. the large car market has dipped but not to the extent of what people have made it out to be it has also recovered somewhat in the last month or two. It is also true that small cars hold their value better because they start of at a cheap price to start with and are reasonably well equiped which tends to attract a larger audience so depreiciation is less then that of a larger car that starts off life at what can be over double the price (without talking exotics and Europeans) and target a smaller audience of buyers leading to increased depreciation. |

by fatcat67 on 22-08-07 02:46 PM Trust the press to sensationalise. I'm hoping that there is just a couple stand out cases and this isn't across the board. Hell, for the past 12 month period new car sales exceeded 1mil for the first time ever. Surely used cars are selling too, negating a market collapse in that segment. |

by befour on 22-08-07 03:15 PM It wasn't created just for used car dealers at all, Prices you see are generally prices you can expect to pay, the Commercial side of pricing is a whole other story that has to be paid for. |

by timzy on 22-08-07 03:30 PM I have to agree with you - I stand corrected. However the values in the book can be abused - e.g. use the lowest value for your trade and the highest value for the new wheels, no? |

by befour on 22-08-07 03:36 PM well to an extent that could be the case, your point is very valid I wont write you off for that. the figures on the website are a guide, someone wishing to sell their car would get a proper valuation certificate from us that would take into account the Km the car has done, the condition of the car and also any extra features that may be added to the car to give an accurate valuation of the price rather then a range that it would fall between. everyone knows what dealerships are like, try and buy for less then what the car is worth then sell at a high price. generally dealerships use a wholesale price rather then a national average price as it is the prices they can get the same car from the auctions at, which is significantly lower then what you would pay from a private seller. |

by timzy on 22-08-07 03:46 PM Yes with the dealers it is all about the margins and they are absolute masters of deception. When one adds insurance company values - agreed and market, there are potentially 8 different documented values for the same vehicle:

by befour on 22-08-07 03:52 PM Prices should be simplified LOL make one car worth 1 value LOL.. Like I know dealerships have to make money and what not but still, unless I was damn desperate I woulnt sell my car to a dealership. rather wait it out and get some extra $$$
