Up to 3200 rpm by itself! ??

  Top of Page

HI,
Re: MY08, 2.5 manual

I am having trouble with Subaru over a few issues. Any ideas or fixes?
Subaru claim this is all normal and intentional, and cannot help.

ONE
After a normal cold start, I try to back out the driveway (with minimal-no throttle) and the car starts revving on its own, in the range 2000-3200 rpm. Lucky I dont keep letting the clutch out with brake off! It usually cycles down, back up, and down again. I have posted some clips on utube.

TWO
There is no fine throttle control possible.. Its fly by wire I think, and its either on or off.. there is no feathering of the throttle possible. Try going down hill, or doing a hill start, or crawling in traffic,  or even a normal start in first gear. Its terrible.

When upshifting, the revs maintain for a moment even with no throttle. I bought a manual to have full control. Not to have it taken away. Not happy Jan.

FOUR
Try double-clutch and rev while down changing. It really consfuses things. The car starts revving just as you get into the lower gear when you want slowing, and then realises theres no throttle and backs off.

Subaru say in conclusion: 2

Get 'Subaru' to take it for a drive and see what they say then..?
Sorry mate, I don't know what it could be.
A possibility would be to let them test drive it as there could be unintentional (maybe an intentional) misunderstanding between what you tell them and what they think you may be saying :Pardon:. Goodluck.

This rev flare to my knowledge is indeed intended by Subaru but from my readings is more to do with meeting emissions targets/regulations than "smooth operation and gearshifts"

If it worries you, lift off fractionally before you normally would when changing gear. Works for me anyway.

Watching the clips to me doesn't look normal.

have you tried a ecu reset? (if its possible on these late models)

its almost as if there is a sensor that is dropping out of normal range and the ecu doesn't know what to do.
maybe a faulty oxy sensor
maybe faulty tps?

That is exactly how my car drove when i first plug the idle air control valve into my motec without tuning it at all .. But standard ecu i would suggest possibly cleaning out the idle control valve (maybe its sticking) or possibly as previously mentioned some other sensor dropout, but that would most likely bring up a check engine light.

it has an electric motor, gear driving the throttle plate,  the car in question needs an idle relearn.

I had a service. Again they deny that what I report (and video) happens!
They reset ECU and same problem on start, only now the car is lacking torque below 3000 rpm, compared to before the service.

I want a full refund on this car with crap engine.
