by XoN on 10-01-08 07:37 PM Think I recall seeing a short doco on the building of this. If its the same building, they were using modified GPS units to get the building as straight as possible, to make sure it all lined up straight.

by krapmeister on 12-01-08 05:57 PM I was in Dubai in August for a few days - the whole place is a building site. And the building goes on 24hrs a day, but I felt for the guys doing the day shift in 45 degree heat. |

I have set out quite a few tall buildings in Brisbane and the Gold Coast (I am a Surveyor) I believe that GPS is a method they may use, but other optical methods would have been used as redundant checks. Keeping a building that tall straight up to that height is amazing. |

by krapmeister on 13-01-08 05:55 PM My sister's boyfriend is a surveyor - working on a project that involves tunnelling machines. He was telling me at xmas time that they use lasers to help guide the machines and keep them headed in the right direction. I suppose that this may also be one of the ways they are keeping the building straight... |
