Top Gear [AUS]

So this is actually alot better than I was expecting...presenters are a bit lame at times but the cars have been decent, I was expecting HSV/FPV's to be the peak of their bunch....

Any thoughts on who our Stig is?

yep, lame. After all their talk about not being a copy of the orig its ****EN identical but with **** presenters. Identical set, power lap board, reasonably priced car, even have the track at an airstrip. Waaaaayyyyyy too much same same. and they destroyed a perfectly good moke, heathens:scare2:

you must have had pretty low expectations.  I don't care if they copy the british format, but the script, personalities, banter/rapport was cr@p.

the bit with the shark was such a waste of time.  if they'd gotten a feeding frenzy going, it might have been ok.

and they spent all that time building up to the maybach and then talked about it for 2 minutes.  WTF?!!??

Re: Top Gear [AUS]

I'm prepared to give it a bit of time - but they need to start giving it an identity of its own, and not be just a straight copy of the original. It was too much like the UK TG.

Why couldn't they give The Stig an aussie moniker? - like the Brock/Dick/Moff/etc

The test track was woeful IMO - no character. When you see the UK test track you know what it is, where the corners are etc - this could be anywhere. They could've used a real track or even a hillclimb.

i won't write it off yet - but it does need to improve and not just be a clone.

I thought it was ****house! Absolutely bloody lame. Who ever thought John Garnham was a good presenter for  car show needs to be shot. The little fella should be hosting some kids game show and the other bloke with the YMCA moustach was mildly amusing at times but the whole thing was like the dusting a turn in dandruff and trying to flog it off as a lamington.

Yep, not much chop. Very disappointing.

Even if they did make it a direct copy, they certainly didn't copy the funny presenters theme. The presenters were s^*t.

And the time spent on each car was way too short. They didn't even thrash the cars. I mean they had the airport, so why didn't they use it.

Cant wait for S12 UK to start.

didnt mind it. but i do agree that they didnt spend enough time on each car.

I was under the impression that because they had bought the rights to the show from the BBC that they had also bought the format too.

A bit like all those game shows like Millionaire, Wheel of Fortune etc, etc...
You buy the show to produce in your own country and you have to follow their format too.

2 minutes in a Maybach and all I know about it is I can plug in a set of headphones in the back seat. My car has IR headphones FFS, no wires:lol:

Hi,

They are contractually obliged to recreate 80% of the original show format.

I have no source for this, I just read it somewhere.

Probably isn't even true.

Fake boobs.

Just watched it. Bored me quite a bit and I couldn't seem to catch the humour in their jokes.

It was an okay watch nonetheless.

It wasn't too bad but I agree with most other reviews that the hosts need to stop trying so hard to be funny.

I just got some photo's of the filming of an up and coming episode.  They race a new WRX against a Tiger attack chopper while it tries to get a lock on the car.  Looks interesting, the attack chopper looks like it means business!  Unfortunately I don't think they used live ammo...

All the episodes have already been filmed, so might not get any better.  Let's hope the British top gear comes on soon.
Or just look on you tube, there's heaps of Top gear stuff from the uk on there.
Most of it has not been on Oz TV.

Re: Top Gear [AUS]

I've seen better motor shows on TV S.

I watch top gear 30% for the cars and 70% for the presenters.

the top gear Australia was absolute dribble. :***:

Test track is Camden Airport. They could have at least used Oran Park or Wakefield.

As for the Stig? No balls at all! What happened to being an aggresive driver??? Hitting those turns hard??? No smoking tires nothing!

Call him the panzy!!! So much for being a copy of UK Top Gear

They've taken this straight from the UK show too, suprise suprise.

Get rid of the hosts and there may be a good show under it all.  They need to Aussie it up a bit, they should've known not to try and copy the show exactly.  I was disappointed, but i won't write it off just yet...
