Hey guys and gals

i was searching the web and came across this, OPen Source ECU programming. From what i can gather you can purchase an interface for youy computer and logg, tune and reprogram your ECU.

This tool would NOT be for the amature and could do some serious damage in the wrong hands, however int eh right hands could be a cheaper alternative to a replacement ECU saveing your $$$$

check it out, tell me what you think. More importantly has anyone use it?

Yes there have been around, and if you look closely you'll find me on there :blush2:

nice find, especially if you have some knowledge of what your doing and access to a dyno. and if your cars 01 or newer.

for the extreme... ive ordered one but not for the GTB, www.msefi.com

assemble/solder, build, wire, tune yourself, with some very nice features.

well i have purchased the cable.. $112USD and i will hopefully have it before the 16th so my mechanic and i can have a look at it.

Yeah i emailed the guy and he said that i should get the one for the WRX as it does all Subaru's just to be sure. Shipping by air should take 3 - 5 days, fingers crossed

Yep, I'm looking into it at the moment ...

It looks simple, however I am having some issues downloading the program from the ECU onto my laptop ...

Other than that, the real-time analyzing tools are great ... diagnosed my knock sensor problem and no more problems tongue

I live near the UNI, Wallsend to be exact. When i figure stuff out ill keep you guys up to date, probably put togeather a guide, and post some maps and readouts etc.

Yep, with ECU explorer and there was another one from TARI racing software ...

OK thought i would give you an update.

The cable works a treat getting readings out and is very easy to use. At the moment i am haveng difficulty uploading changes to the ECU however ill keep you posted.

I bought one of those interfaces back at the begining of the year.

So far I've diagnosed a few problems with my RX and B4, how ever I haven't downloaded the ROM from my ECU yet.

Best $110 I think I've spent I big_smile

From my understanding you will be able to log data but not reflash (reprogram a MY99). I think they changed ecu's to the reprogrammable via odb type in MY00 models.

I think the easiest solution would be to find someone else who has the cable and see if it works though. If your in perth you can try mine.
