The site feedback thread

  Top of Page

Ok, clearly some of you are quite unhappy with the new site.
There are only so many hours in the day, and obviously we can't fix everything in an instant, so I'd like to know specifically what your biggest problem is.
So, please answer the above based on what you would like to see fixed first, and please explain further in a post.

If you can't nail down exactly what you dislike any further than "its slow", please just click that option and leave it at that. Choosing "too slow" and then posting "Its way too slow" is pointless to everyone, but choosing "too slow" and posting something like "it takes too long to find the latest posts when I click the link" will be a massive help.

Thanks guys.

Re: The site feedback thread

too many navigation bars and i cant get search to work, the forum itself is still standard layout like if you click the forum button up top its basically the same as old forum, bar the lack of colour range (need some different shades of orange) oh and wtf is with the whack orange highlights over half the bottom of the page there :S

i think if you can just fix the navigation stuff by restructuring the top of the site in a more standard way (instead of 6 different navigation layers) most people would be happy.

as for the speed of the site... i didn't really have a problem with it until today

Apart from the speed problem.
All i've had trouble with is the lack of a working 'go to first unread post button'
In the old site it was also handy to be able to see the first post of a thread by just
putting the cursor over the thread title when searching.

Re: The site feedback thread

my main problem is that the text boxes seem to cut of a word and a half of everything that anyone posts (on the right side of the box), and for that matter any pictures that are wider than the text boxes get cut off too.

the only way i can read everything someone says is to press the quoted button and read it in the response text box...

and i'm running 1920x1080, so i don't think it's my resolution, as the forum stays the same width regardless of the size of the window (which is another thing i hate)

edit:
and on multi-page theads the page navigation buttons don't work...

You don't get a glimpse of what the thread is about when you move the cursor over it.
You have to click on the message button to see if you have any.
It's plain ugly.
When you move the cursor over someones user name it's almost impossible to read the bloody details because it's dark grey on darker grey.
Just can't stand it.

Re: The site feedback thread

*Bit too busy/too much going on, on the front page/most pages
*Be good if it remembered that i want the wider version instead of having to hit the button every time i visit
*When ya swipe over a users avatar the box pops up and stays there, blocking the view. I think it would be better to have the info from the box permanently displayed below/beside the avatar.
*Did i mention its too busy? KISS

EDIT: and what the fuck is up with that stupid plain white "redirecting" page coming up whenever ya do something.

Re: The site feedback thread

when i click the user CP tab i'm missing the bottom 3 or 4 options shown in the tutorial. hope they're not important ones.
messages between the CP tab and the home page are not in sinc'.
quotes should not be the same colour as your post . when scrolling down it's not so easy to follow.
and yeah , it's all a bit slow.
plenty of potential i'd say.

Re: The site feedback thread

too many menus to try and find your way around.

there should just be one...

instead there are 3, one at the top, one at the bottom and one under the "ozliberty home" near the top of the page.

Re: The site feedback thread

The new site does show promise, it only needs to be ironed out which is where this thread comes into play. A couple of suggestions I have are:

The user name and avatar space taking less prominence to the comment box. It distracts the eye away from the text and leaves more for the brain to take in.

Is it possible for these buttons to stay at the top of the screen (follow you when you scroll down through threads) similar to that which exist with most programs IE: program menu areas?
Home, Forum, News, Technical, Reviews, Classifieds, Chat, Events, Community and Shop

This would streamline the site use as I spend a small portion of time scrolling back up the page to go to other areas etc

Limiting the size of signature pictures to a minimal height. Although the signatures may be special to people they fill the page with unnecessary visual stimuli.

Message entry area buttons are not currently functioning

They are the current items I can bring to light for now. Keep up the hard slog.

Re: The site feedback thread

Part of my job is to test for UI/software problems, so forgive me for being brief, I just don't like doing my job at home. The new site is ass. The software that's running this "forum"/social networking abortion is either badly designed, implemented, or running on a server that cannot cope with. That's the point of view from someone running a pretty much top of the line internet connection, on a combination of a decent link (at work) or ADSL2+ at home. Imagine how the "average" user is going to handle on dodo running a 2 year old dell. Personally I think you guys need to roll back to using the vanilla version of vbulletin while you do some serious tweaking/analysis of the feedback you are getting - until that time I think you are going to struggle to retain (good) members, and I'll be parked over at RSLC or (gasp) rexnet in the meantime.

Re: The site feedback thread

We won't be rolling back to VBulletin, the current CMS is well over 4 years old and yes it has been superceded since, but this was the easiest channel for us to convert our info. It is only an intermediate site though. This is Joomla 1.0 we will be migrating to 1.5.

I understand you guys want to leave your work at work, all we ask is that you put back into a community/ resource that you use.

Re: The site feedback thread

Firstly thanks to those who have spent their time redesigning the site.  big_smile  Personally I prefer the look and usability of the old site but regardless of that I acknowledge creating the new site would have been a massive job.

Naturally I'm having a little trouble navigating but concede that's mainly coz it's new and I don't know my way around.  Like a few people I find the site to be slow when loading different pages.  I also agree with someone else's comment about having to enter the guts of the forum to find out if there are any messages, that's a bit time consuming.  My biggest bugbear (as per my problem registered through the helpdesk) is that I couldn't access the site with my old user name and had to re-register! sad Hopefully that will be corrected soon and I can reaccess my older user name and messages - hint hint...!!

Cool I appreciate that, but I'm pretty sure it will still look / feel / be like this? just without coding everywhere..

p.s, that link you provided to the old forum (god it was great to see it again), the PM's can't be viewed..I have 8 unread ones I needed.

Hi, All.

I haven't been on this site for ages.  My biggest beef with it is that the old URL still exists, but still says that the forum will be online shortly.  I didn't know that the URL had changed.

Re: The site feedback thread

we have all these fancy "features" that never get used, are more difficult than before, or just plain dont work!

-that video on the main screen has stayed the same for ever, is it always going to be there or what?

-we don't have a page anymore that shows us just our subscribed threads and lists the ones with new posts first. (GREATEST FEATURE EVER)

-the for sale section is a pain, I don't want to go through specific sections to find stuff, just have 3 areas-cars for sale-parts for sale- non car related stuff for sale

-produce a SUBSCRIBE button that works and only needs to be clicked ONCE.

-I rarely get emails notifying me of PM's recieved and because of them being hidden in the tab up top I just went a month without replying to a mate's question.

provar does the 'Subscribed threads' link in the User CP and also the Forum -> My menu not list your subscribed threads adequately?
