The Gong

  Top of Page

A few guy's from the forum have gone down for the RSLC '08 meet up.
I haven't heard from Jarrod in a few days, and just happened to find his whereabouts via this clip.

Looks like all involved are having a good time.
Lucky buggers.

Re: The Gong

So far, I've made it to Thursday night meet greet and drinks.

The gong is about an hour and a half away from where I live, and the plan was to go down with a couple of sixpacks of cooper's pale ale, go for a cruise, and meet some people over a BBQ.

With some heavily stupid rain, it put a dampener on things. So much so, that the cruise was shelved, we all went to the local club for dinner, (and karaoke!) and return back to the motel where everyone was staying.

It turned out I was having so much fun (and there was so much beer around) that Gin and I ended up getting a room at the same place, and I canned on until about 3am.

Friday, we had to pike, as my missus had business to sort out. Saturday we also had to pike, because she had her birthday party on (tonight).

Needless to say, we're hoping to make it out on Sunday for the skidpan day.

We've met Jarrod and Billsy among many others, and they're ace blokes smile

It sounds great.

I'll put it on the calendar for next, for sure.
Work commitments killed the idea this year.

i just came back from the gong, but not for RSLC events,  had to drop a car off at south coast rotaries. we were hoping that the tune could of been done today, but they had no time. so we left the Lux there and all 5 of us crammed into the suby for the long trek back to ACT up maquarie pass...

king lows+ 18's + 5 guys in car = scrub heaven...

good times though,

Dunno, I think Jarrod (9880XR) was the only Oz Liberty regular there. That was a wicked car, too, BTW. Yet another super-super-super well-done AM Auto conversion that absolutely CRACKED!

Re: The Gong

Am back now guys.

Had an absolute blast. Definately worth the 1100km trip down south. Stopped in at Newcastle on the way down and spent the night there before driving the rest to Wollongong. Left the Gong yesterday morning at about 930 and got home about 8 last night. What a drive.

Met billsy and SOO081 at the motel. Had to laugh as when you actually get the chance to meet people from the forums, your perception of them is totally off from how you think they are. I told Alex I thought he was some little smarta$$ed wog c**t and I thought billsy was some old mad guy hahahahaha. We all had a good laugh about it.

Nothing is broken on the car. She made it through the whole weekend with no dramas. All up she did about 3100km since leaving the Gold Coast on Wednesday morning.  The go-karts was heaps fun. I used my own helmet that I keep in the car and decided to take off the visor as I never use it when I'm on the strip. Bad idea. Was getting smashed in the face by dirt and grass and then getting it washed away with the water spraying up from behind everyone from the track. I'll remember that for next time.  The Picton Rd cruise was a long drive but definatley good. For those of you who know what the Springbrook road is like, it was similar to this except a lot faster. Maxed out the car a few times and according to the gps, max speed isn't 180km, its 181km hahahahahahaha.  Skidpan..... what to say??? Sooo much fun to hang the car out sideways.

A massive thanks to the boys from RSLC that organised it all. Thanks for the the warm welcomes. Good to meet you too Marv as I know your not on here as much as you are on RSLC. Hope you get that power steering pump sorted out.  Click here for skidpan pics of the whole day. Heres some pics of the car from the weekend guys.

The car after the Skidpan. I found some wet grass while we were waiting...

Dang.

I wish I could've attended.

Looks fantastic, and that video just made me sad sad

Jarrod I must say I love your car, the more I see of it the more I love its aggressive looks and power to back.

Marv said it goes like the clappers.

Looks as though it was a really well planned event, the organisers should definitely be proud.

I hope a similar thing will happen in '09.

So Jarrod, when are planning on moving to NSW smile

You guys with your stupid daylight saving hahahahahaha. Im happy where I am at the moment but who knows. Will be up for this next year for sure. And thanks for the comments on the car mate. Geach (from RSLC) said to me if someone told him about a Gen 2 with 03 STi scoop and 99 vents on it he would've laughed and said what a heap of sh*t. He was shocked at how good it looked.:yes2:

Take that compliment on board from Geach with some weight, J-rod. He is a man with hard and high automotive tastes.

Mate, your bonnet looks tops.

OK it was a bit over the top on it when it was on your car when it was NA, but now that it's turbo and has the goods under the hood (or something?) I think its fantastic.

Even I would considering such a bonnet on my masterpiece, however I will opt for the more stealthy, FMIC look.

I saw a few millipedes crawling around down there. Was waiting for him to say something hahahaha. I will. It would have been good to take him out on the skid pan for a few laps. I had Mark, Johnno, Sam (WA) and Geach in the car coming back from the park. Did a launch in the car and he was amazed at how fast it pulled for a full car.

Re: The Gong

What a weekend, reassembled engine and gearbox (rebuilt engine and replaces gears in dogbox) on sun/mon/tues/wed.
1km test drive round the block, engine runs, gearbox has 5 fwd 1 reverse so all is good.
go home load car and hit the highway.
TT all running well but wont make more than 16 psi. still pulls well though no detonation and nice and smooth.

cut out long bits of story here, those who didnt come definitely missed out.
check RSLC for full writeups.

sat night stick wideband up the wags ass and check afr and boost gets to 19PSI and its on like donkey kong, except a little det so added a bit of fuel and at 10.7:1 its under control, but it think the caltex fuel is crap and the main reason for the detonation.

get to the skidpan and first session out its a carve up, diffs are coping and its sliding round like a champ
second session its noticeably more front biased, but going from 1st gear to 2nd made it slide well.
3rd session i tried to cut sick but the centre diff had had enough and mainly fwd at this stage so i finished off in big smokey 2nd gear heli where the wastegate hose blew off and the ecu decided to kill the fun, so i drove off and parked it after a cooldown run up the strip.

then it was the motorkhana time. where i knew i would fail miserably because my reverse is very tempramental (dog box thing) and jumps out if i go fast in reverse. but heading out i hit the dirt but and reef up the handbrake when to my amazement all 4 wheels LOCKUP. and then i turn and it goes bang bang bang clunk, as it binds up like a 4wd. i decided to free it up by launching it into the skidpan and now its pretty much an open diff sad
then i noticed its extra laggy and struggles to make more than 16 psi.... so ive got something to look into.

ill link up the pics and vids as they come up
