Suitable springs and struts for a Gen2 Sedan?

  Top of Page

Hey all,
I was just wondering which springs and struts from other models of liberty will suit my 1995 Gen2 'Rallye' Sedan?
I've been trawling through eBay etc trying to get a grasp on what will and won't be suitable for my model. I gather that certain other models such as the pink STI springs but am unsure of which years suit.
Any help is appreciated,
Cheers

I'm running 2inch lowered H&R Sport Springs all round in my wagon.
They're advertised as fitting the Gen 1, but they also go on the Gen 2. I initially felt they were a little too soft, but I'm still running standard ARB's so I'd say the body roll is blowing through the travel and causing the suspension to bottom out on the outside when I hit larger bumps during cornering. Stiffer ARB's will keep the car flatter so it wont go as deep into the travel through the corners.

I have koni inserts in the front, which involved cutting the top off the strut housing, and removing the shaft/shock internals, then drilling a M10 hole in the bottom of the strut, dropping the insert in, and screwing it down tight with the M10 bolt through the bottom. Very simple job.

I'm running the GTB rear struts with standard GTB shocks.

Before this, I was running 95 WRX struts on the front with King Super Low's all round and the car was definitely too low and too soft.

This is how mine sits now with the H&R's

I'm using GC8 STi suspension in my Gen2. Just had to swap the top hats on the rear.

If you do have to swap the top hats, once you put the car on the ground tighten the top hat bolt again.
(top hats aren't an exact match on the shock, but they do fit and work fine. Just once you put the car on the ground, tighten the bolt again as you will have a bit left to tighten.)

I have the GC8 STi suspension in mine now but haven't seen much of a difference in ride height. The back yes but the front not so much... did you notice the same thing Ren-dog?
The struts fitted in like lego and didn't require any modding or swapping which was handy. The improvement in ride quality in suspension was huge though!
I'm considering getting some lowered springs front & maybe back, similar to high-on-octane's setup. Not sure whether to get the GC8 springs to match the struts or BD5 springs to match the car, thoughts?

I just put a 22mm whiteline swaybar and all new urethane bushes in the rear of mine (haven't got around to doing the front yet) and it's HUGELY improved cornering. Car corners way flatter now so it's not rolling and blowing through all of the travel on the outside front anymore. It's made it a very neutral handling car, I couldn't push it hard enough to bring on any understeer unless I wound on too much steering lock. Highly recommended upgrade!

Mine dropped 1CM all round but i used the GC8 springs with the struts, the rear is still 1-2cm lower than the front tho, which doesnt bother me to much, but i do intend to drop the front a little more one day. Maybe when i leave this town.

Yeh, because the back is now lower, it makes the front seem even higher hmm
I've seen some decent H&R BD5 springs so might get those for the GC8 struts, should flatten out nicely (I hope)

just for a bit of fyi, pretty much all suspension from series 1 will fit series 2 (some may need minor mods done) but yeah that also includes impreza parts
