The rumor mill is up and running again this week, churning out reports of a new Toyota Celica. While the Toyota line-up once included a variety of sports-coupes, since the cancellation of the Supra, MR2 and Celica, it's had nothing but sedans, hatchbacks, vans and trucks to offer. Rumor has it that a new Celica is on the way, to be built by Subaru, in whose parent company Fuji Heavy Industries Toyota acquired significant stake back in 2005.
If reports out of Japan's BestCar are to be believed, "4" The GT-Four could also be a sort of performance hybrid, gaining small electric motors in each of the four wheels. Both the GT and GT-Four are tipped to be available in either two-door or three-door bodystyles, since the Impreza is offered only as a sedan and five-door for this current generation. The new Celica, the styling of which could draw on the FT-HS concept car from last year's Detroit show (pictured below), is reportedly being readied for a launch in Japan next year.

Subaru don't make a 2+2 like the Celica! This is a result of Toyota investing heavily in FHI a few years ago as the article says.

The car pictured in the article is the Toyota FT HS; Future Toyota Hybrid Sport.
A hybrid engined 2+2 that has been touted as holding design cues for the new Celica.
So it's not the Celica itself, but it's still damn attractive.
And yes it does look like the love child of Boba Fet & a Storm Trooper.

About time Toyota cut the boosheet with their omg-beyond-ugly-its-a-hell-spawn-from-beyond-the-AIDS-infested-toilet-bowl-from-a-public-toilet-from-Mount-Druitt type of styling with the current line up, especially that corolla sedan...


Also about time they cut out that puss nugget that is the FWD Celica.





Bring back the RWD!!!

AWD can come to the party too.

This is more accepted as what it will look like. That hybrid concept? Nice...ish. But I don't think that's where we are headed just yet for 2l turbs......

To be brutally honest, it would be nice to see the JDM 2L make it to our shores, awesome. I doubt it though. So I would probably prefer to see a Toyota developed 2L turbo....

Maybe to combat the new Hyundai BEAST RWD???

No, the cheaper GT will be NA. The GT4 will be turbo;

The more expensive GT-Four, meanwhile, will come with AWD as standard and get the same 300hp turbo four as the Japanese spec Subaru Impreza STI. According to the source, the engine in this car will be positioned closer to the firewall to help improve handling and it could also feature in-wheel electric motors to help traction.

The Toyota crowd certainly aren't convinced by the rumour, which apparently was started in the notorious Best Car magazine.
