As i just changed my spark plugs i figured i would make a writeup for those that may find some use in it.
Tools Needed: Ratchet, extension, park plug socket, pliers (to get spark plug out of hole), philips head screwdriver and flat head screwdriver, spark plugs, leads (if you want to change them as well)
Time: This was my first time changing the plugs on the liberty and it took me about 20 minutes.
Here is a pic of the engine bay.
You will want to remove the airbox and AFM to get access to the drivers side plugs,
and likewise to get to the passenger side plugs you will want to move the washer fluid reservior and battery
(could probably do it without moving them but it only takes a couple of minutes and makes life much easier).
Step 1 - Remove air box
Unclip 4 clips on airbox and remove the filter (maybe replace if its dirty?)
Then loosen the hose clamp for the AFM using a screw driver. Then pull the afm and top of the airbox off the rest of the intake piping.
This could be a good time to check / clean the afm.
Now you should have plenty of room to tackle the plugs and leads.
With the airbox removed
Step 2 - Drivers side plugs
Next pull off the leads (i do them one at a time but it is hard to mix them up), make sure you pull them off from the plug and not the wire.
Once the lead is off attach extension bar and the spark plug socket to your ratchet.
Unscrew them (lefty loosey) and pull them out. Pliers come in handy here.
Next put your new spark plug in the hole and use the extension and socket to thread it in BY HAND at first.
To make sure i dont cross thread it i just turn it anticlockwise first and then start to turn it clockwise. It should thread in quite easily.
Make sure you dont cross thread them otherwise it can be an expensive fix.
Once they are mostly in use the ratchet to tighten them to the manufacturer specifications.
Repeat for both spark plugs on this side.
Step 3 - Remove Battery and Fluid Reservior
Firstly i removed the battery.
To do this use a 10mm socket to take off the battery leads, then a 10mm spanner to take off the battery clamp.
Remove the battery from the car and move leads aside.
Next i moved the washer bottle out of the way. Unclip the connector that connects to the motor at the bottom of the bottle.
Once it is unclipped just undo the 2 screws at the top of the bottle.
Now you should be able to move the bottle out of the way. Just be careful with the hose and not to tip it over if it still has fluid.
I just balanced it carefully so it was out of the way.
Step 4 - Passenger Side plugs
Now there should be plenty of room to get to the passenger side plugs.
Similarly just remove each lead and replace the plugs as for the drivers side.
Step 5 - Put everything back
Now that you would have replaced all plugs, putting everything back is the reverse of the steps mentioned above.
Dont forget to tighten the battery leads and reconnect the AFM and washer motor connector (easy to forget) and retighten the AFM clamp.
Hope this was helpful.
