Further to this these are actual people doing manual registrations. There has been an influx of spammers over the last few days and if they post please hit the "report bad post button" and it will notify us of it

Dirty no good spammers. I noticed a hole bunch the other week (which I reported cos I'm a good little fella). Same happened to another site which I best not mention for fear of the ban stick.

Rick Nath Nic or any other Mod.

Whats the f**king deal with the Gen 2 section getting Spammed like crazy of late?????? I've been reporting that **** and its still there???? Have a look in Aaron's Halfcut advice thread.

Can we make it so from now on new users need a certain type of email address. I'm refering to the method in which Rexnet works. Can't use a yahoo or hotmail address. Instead you need a proper one like bigpond or optusnet etc etc.

That would limit so many potential users from joining. Instead we should be blocking IP address and mail extensions (e.g mail.ru ) or implementing recaptcha - http://recaptcha.net/

This would prevent future spammers, maybe making a possible minimum post count before a user can input a link.

Just a thought...

Pretty good idea actually. Make it something that's easily found on wikipedia for international members maybe...

Currently it's just a case of deleting (I have started to completely remove these suckers so they don't appear) and then banning the user permanently. If they are actual people taking the time to join then there is not a lot extra that can be done??

Yeah I run another forum where we have a couple of different methods for trying to prevent automated signups. I strongly suspect that they're using human assistance sad Fags

Can't you just ban certain words.  If any of those words are in the the thread name then it doesn't get posted?

maybe a invite system?? in the way that they either need to put down the user that invited them and then it checks to see that is a valid user and if not validated by that member then they can only post in new member area until activated by Admin.

there are a few sites i visit that are like that.

Come on guys, this is starting to get a bit ridiculous.  Something needs to be done about this. What does someone need to do in order to become a member on here???? Clicking on a picture is in my opinion, a sh1thouse idea. As soon as you do that, all thats needed are a few little details before you can start spamming up the joint. Where's the "Your profile will be reviewed before you are allowed to post" kind of ideas. Maybe send a PM, see what the reply is like, give them some more tests before they can start posting. I realise its going to be more stuffing around, but at the end of the day, it will keep that crap out of the forums. I know that there is alot more spam in here that we peasants don't see that mods do, and for that well done on hiding it/deleting it etc etc. So lets see what we can get done about this.

Hi,

Mate, I am deleting constantly. It has never been this bad before.

The trouble is, these spammers are actual people - very, very hard to combat.

We've all thrown our hands up in the air, but this new wave of actual 'human spam' is very difficult to counter.

Any suggestions will be received with open arms!!!

Cheers,
Nik

I have found the correct settings so all new users will be manually approved. This means it may take time for legit to be approved but will stop the spam
