Souvlaki vs Kebabs vs Gyros

  Top of Page

Random thread because 2moro is a public holiday which makes today a no brainer day.

What the hell is the difference? I know kebabs and souvlakis seem to be used interchangeably. To me, a kebab is is meat on sticks that you throw onto the barbie. Then there's gyros......

Shane do some research.. smile

kebab is not Lebanese, its a food thats put together in most european and arab countries,

its more likely to have a Turkish background if anything.

The ottoman empire ruled alot of places, hence the reason why its made in greece for example, but under a different name.

Haha yeah melbourne cup. Not going to put any money on it this year cos i reckon its bulls**t. horse racing is ghey. half the people who go know f** all about the horses, they're just there to get wasted and get a shag. I watch it n all but its so over rated. I like it cos we get a holiday!

B4Cruiser, thats wicked haha. No wonder you need to get your car retuned...it'll need every kw it can to haul your ass around.

Monday is always a sandwich day for me but this week i'm off the bread since its a 4 day week. No gyros, yiros, souvlakis or kebabs down my end. People in this area are too posh so all they eat a foccacias and sandwiches. Bunch of foccas.

Yeeros uses pita bread, the kebab uses that leb bread that they need to stick under a sandwich maker to make it soft and feel like it's fresh.

Souvlaki is usually lamb chunks on a stick, these days they come in chicken pork beef, etc.

As for Brenda's history lesson, praise alah that he's not a historian  :umnik:

Alexanda not only smashed them he taught them a thing or too about food and music as well as backdoor benny :haha:

So last night i went out with the mrs to a greek restaurant where i ordered a lamb souvlaki thinking to get lamb with pita bread or something. I ended up getting a lamb kebab (the skewer type) with onions and capsicum. WTF.
