Hi guys,

Well, i have just had a loan pre approved and I am going to get either 2001 or 2002 B4 liberty

Now i spent a good 5 hours last night reading this forum and was almost in tears at some stage, reading about how such a nice looking, stlyish, semi sports car could come so under prepared engine management wise. Espcially from Subaru!!!

I was googling and read a  review that the car did a stock 1/4 time of 16.2, I was almost in tears as my current Car GTi at one stage in it's life ran faster than that will having problems (mind you it was nitrous injected!!) My heart sank. but i seriously can not believe that a 190kw (claimed) car could run such a s**tty stock time.

So after much deliberation for the price range and potential , i still have decided to get one. like i saw someone say on here they don;t get much credit because of the whole WRX syndrome. you mention subaru WRX automatically jumps in your head not B4

So as soon a i get it the first mods will be exhaust, chip (have not decided wether full Ecu or piggy back) then after my money runs out i will go from there lol

So hopefully in the next 2 weeks i will have a B4 liberty!!! I am still excited and hopefully i can get rid of that VOD and pinging that you all talk about

Welcome mate,

Too many ppl get the wrong impression of the B4.  Its more of a comfortable cruiser than an all-out performance vehicle; altho its still got plenty of puff if you need it.  If you want all out power, go the Rex.  I'm sure you can get a much better time than the claimed as many ppl on here have.  Overall, i don't think you'll be dissapointed with the B4.

Yeah thats the whole reason I like the B4, i wanted something with the potential to go fast but with the drive ability and comfort and style. and i am not a big fan of the WRX lol i just don't like them lol

I am almost 30 and the swift is dying and just not cutting it anymore. Don't get me wrong i luv the little swifty, it's just time to move on.

if i run a sub 14 with me in the car ( I am not a small guy) i will be happy. Sure that time may take a year to come but so long as i don;t run a 16 I'll be very happy lol

Considering someone recently ran mid 15's in a Gen 3 n/a, i don't think you'll have a problem. wink

Standard is a mid 14 or slightly better. If you get the other mods you were talking about you will love it.

sounds good to me. Like i said i always liked them, i just was a bit dis heartened by the whole VOD thing. but i think if i  get rid of it that'll be fine smile

hey welcome and enjoy. these car are more luxury cruiser then rally car, even thoughthe did rally with sucess the early legacy's.....

thanks guys, i have already learnt a heap from viewing here and am just waiting on a couple of car yards to get back to me. grrrr. don't wanna deal with them but unfortunetly i have to due to loan conditions

I know i will be happy with the car.

There is a good buy to be had if you shop around, maybe even look at RaS Black B4!

good luck mate.

The B4 is a great car and you will love it. My suggestion is to get the latest model that you can. I bought an 01 and have nothing but problems with it and have spent a cr@p load of money to fix it. But its going 90% well at the moment and when i drive it, it still gives me a smile.

Best thing is to get it and put the exhaust and computer on and then you will have a car that sounds fecking awesome and goes really well.

Absolutely, but the first Legacys are of a different makeup completely in comparison to their Third-Generation counterparts.

From my experience, the most essential thing you should have done to the car when you get it is get the ECU Tuned/Piggybacked to kill the shicehouse factory tune Subaru put on them. Then after that worry about exhaust and what not.

all this luxury cruiser talk is annoying me..

you get nothing to brag about!! but overall the car is great,

and all the car needs is a little tinkering and you will hammer everything, I have not spent more than $1000 in total in 2 years and I still hammer my mates 03 STI WRX, so HA!

Kosti-Tek plus a GFB boost controller, and a driver that knows how to treat a "luxury cruiser" like a Gemini.. smile

I need Kosti-tek to loan me his cable so I can customise my tune a little.. It needs less fuel and more boost! heheh, recipe for disaster but also a recipe for some blistering power.. (well  maybe not blistering)

Kosti-Tek only on the b4? I have heard before that you cant tinker with the bg's ECU is this true?

haha I got no Kosti-Tek so being in an auto, i consider it a luxury cruiser.  smile  If i beat me mates modded up 200SX, i'll reconsider that statement!

yeah thats all I have done to mine, and a diff back muffler..

You can tinker with your model ECU but no-one on here has the cable, since 99 or 2000 they started using an OBD-II connection to access the ECU, Kosti dont have the cable for your car..

get yourself a boost controller and wind the b1tch up BROOO!

How much boost are you running xxb4xx?  Mines set to 15.8 but spikes to 17psi.  Hesitant to wind it more than that...
