Looks like not alot have seen this, I know a few have mentioned their intentions. I was looking at an end of season trek again this year, have to start saving if I'm ever going to get there. Those roads between Jindy and Thredbo are Subaru fun, every second car at Jindy is a Sooby...classic.

Yeah, I'm heading for Thredbo for the last week in July, then to Perisher for a couple more days. Fingers crossed they get some decent cover soon. Already cancelled a booking I had for last week. I'm meeting up with a few RS Liberty club guys from all over the country for some fun.

Whats the G O with chains and the snow in NSW?

I was told you need them because AWD is different to 4WD? How are you meant to fit chains on a My07 GTB 18" rim?

I'm doing the season in Jindy at the moment.. There is a bit of snow falling at the resorts as we speak..

Suby's are a dime a dozen down here. Yeh by law we should be carrying chains, but even when they pulling cars over to put them on, they usually let the soobs drive through without. I have never been told to put chains on in a Lib.

Last year AWD was cool without chains, hope that hasn't changed.

as far as i know you are supposed to carry them but they dont mind with AWD and soobs, because in the last 4 yrs or so there hasn't been enough snow to even make it down to the road so i think we'll be fine.
in my opinion chains are overrated anyway, look at canada and japan they get over 14m of snowfall a season, and i have been to both and didnt see one car with chains on it!

In 10 years of doing trips to the snow in Subaru’s I’ve never had use chains. My olds have always had Subies too and as far as I can remember they never had to when we did snow trips either...

I’m probably going to go down in two weeks to check it out. Might get a season pass and be a weekend warrior for season. My mate is renting a house for the season so it works out pretty good...probably try and put in a two week stint mid season if I can get it off work

Probably going to do the usual 5 days with my mates at selwyn, stay in Adaminaby, thats cheap as chips, then maybe later on in the season fork out the dosh and head down to either falls creek or mount hotham. I think im going to drive the MR2 but we'll most likely end up taking a foz and a vw r32, depends how many sign up.

I'm living in Jindy and just doing cleaning work down here. I saved up a fair bit of cash so I only need to work 2 or so days a week. Heaps more time to ride.

Got around 10cm last night, it was a big help! Getting more snow and they are still making heaps even throughout the day as it's -2..

I think that may be because they use snow tyres - no need for chains if you got those on.

I'm hoping to get to some Aussie snow this year - maybe NZ if the season here is poor.

Excellent! Finally starting to get some cover.
Billsy, do they have karaoke there? Reggy wants an Encore performance of "It's raining men"
I need some new goggles, what do you guys recomend? Should I buy in Jindy? E-Bay or what? I don't want some radical looking snowboard goggles, just old school cool looking ones.

Oh I wish I could remember the name of the store there that sells good cheap goggles. From the main plaza area you have to walk behind, and then over a road and up to a different group of shops......have no idea of the name, sorry mate. I didn't buy any there but they were about $40....which is not bad, depending on your amount of use, and your standards. Just shop around down there, makes sense that it would be easier to buy close to the snow then any where else (SnowBiz in Brisbane is a rip).

Anon is a pretty safe brand to go with. That would be my first preference.

Rythm isn't too bad, but there are plenty of shops in Jindy. ESS, First Tracks, Pow and Time to Ride. They all stock sweet gear. I'll have a look online and see if I can find anything. I bought mine online from the US but that was with a whole bunch of gear so made it worthwhile!

So Raz is coming too? Cool, he's gunna get chopped.
DWBN's gunna steal his board and break it in half 2 seconds later!:Pilot:

Yeah, those gogg's are a little too funky for me, need something more understated. We're going through Cooma (from Canberra) so I'll check it out then.

Any of you SA boys coming up here in the next couple of weeks? If so got room for a set of Billsteins/springs? I live in Jindy and manage a ski/board rental at Lake Crackenback so can hook you up with gear for your trouble.

Also for anyone from here who needs ski/board gear come and see me at Harro's Snowsports @ Lake Crackenback Resort for 10% off rentals and good deals on retails. Just ask for Adrian and mention OzLiberty

You guys who are down here drop me a pm and we'll hook up for a beer or two. I parked next to a silver GenII with WRX wheels yesterday. Anyone's?

sweet only 8 days to go until i get down there!! and filed my tax return yesterday so hopefully that'll go through soon! WOO!!
haha
you guys looking for goggles, its best to get a pair that are comfortable and avoid dwelling over the price, as if you get a crappy pair and they fog up all day you are going to hate yourself for buying them, make sure the goggles you are buying a dual lens construction as this really helps with anti fog,
some good brands are Anon, Oakley (but really expensive, and comfortable), electric , and spy,
they are the brands that i have come to trust as with over 11 yrs snowboarding i have been through MANY pairs of goggles.
so like someone allready said shop around but make sure they are comfortable and create a seal all the way around the foam onto your face, those are the main things you want to look for.
yeh anyone whose down thredbo from 11 july till 27th july, let me know would be good to hook up for a beer, im driving a silver genII wagon with green p plates and dents and prima spots (lol) all over the car, i also have a big grenade and anon stickers on the back.
cheers guys

Re: snow 08

I saw you drive by yesterday when I was walking the dog. Nice ride and I wouldn't mind checking out your conversion as I'm thinking about doing it myself. Where are you working?

As far as Kosi Auto goes don't even think about going anywhere else! Andrew is the best Subaru guy in the region period. Both he and his wife rally WRXs and I still haven't come up with a question Andrew can't answer off the top of his head. He's also just got a new set-up for tuning ECUs, after I went all the way to Melbourne to get our 3.0l Outback tuned by STI. Just drop in and see him and he'll get you sorted. He's really busy though so you probably won't get in for a week or so. Ask him about Alpina as well and say good buy to starting your car 10mins before you leave to melt the ice off your windscreen.
