Shannons insurance

  Top of Page

Ok, I'm putting this in a new thread coz it got lost in the other one...

My insurance will need to be renewed in early April (I've had my Lib for almost a year now, that's gone quick!) but in order to get my rims etc covered, I'll need to change providers.

So, is anyone on here under 25 and insured with Shannons??

I did an online quote with Just Car and it was over $1100 a year, I would just go through them but you have to give them all that money upfront because they don't do monthly payments, or at least not until you've been with them for a year. Which is super ridiculous because it's apparently designed for young drivers, and young drivers are the ones who are more likely to not have much money!!

My best friend is with Shannons and she's under 25 too, but I think they made an exception for her. I've rang then once and they didn't want to know me, the guy told me to go to Just Car pretty much straight away. She's told me to ring again and keep pushing till they give in, which I guess I will, but I'm not hopeful...

I'm with Shannons.

They market themselves to 'motoring enthusiasts' - they asked me questions about whether I was in any car clubs, went to any motor racing events etc etc. If you can show that you have a 'passion' for motoring they seem to be more keen to speak to you.

Definately keep trying - perhaps say that you heard good things about them through friends that are insured with them - if you can get insurance through them even if it is a bit more it would be worth it, I've only heard good things. Heard mixed reports about Just Car - it is basically AAMI.

Yup, definitely keep trying smile
Not sure what car you're trying to insure either, but even that makes a difference smile

My mate works for Shannons, might be able to put you onto him if you like...

Yep...Keep on trying.
We've been with them for over 20years and have house and contents too.
They are one of only a few companies our panelbeater mate will deal with. They won't run a quote down as they want the job done right, which is why you have insurance in the first place. The wife put a SMALL (the size of your hand) scrape on the rear quarter of the GenIII ($3k worth) and no probs at all.
We "pay by the month" direct debit so there is no mucking about with funds.
If you are successful, ask them about "protected no claim" and how long till you qualify. This means that any claim will not put your premimum up. With us it was 3years.
Good luck.

Mention that you are a part of Ozliberty.com and that you participate with events and outings.

Also, enrol into and complete a defensive driver course.

That should help.

Re: Shannons insurance

ive been insured with shannons since i was 19.
$1000 a year for my car was half the price others were asking.
join a car club maybe.
shannons are a major sponsor of the sporting car club which i am a member of.
and they are really good to deal with. ive recently put in a claim and it was so easy i got a quote, told them the price and now they are organising a day for it to repaired.

got Nang?

I was with ING, but they wanted to up my premium by 25% and increase my excess when I wanted to do some mods. Was going to go to Just Car but heard a few bad things about them, so spoke to Shannons instead. Cheaper premium and lower excess, choice of repairer, pay by the month direct debit, agreed value - approx. $880 a year.

And we now also have our home insurance through them and get a discount because of it.

Can anyone recommend a car club or similar to join that Shannon's 'approve' of?

I'm so sick & tired of being dicked around by my insurance company, and the problem (IMO) stems from the lack of choice of repairer, they went to the cheapest one they could and I've had nothing but problems since.

Almost a year later and countless trips back it still isn't up to scratch. Once this is cleared up they're not getting another cent of my money.

I'm looking into going with Shannon's, but I'm only 20. Anyone have any tips? I've read a whole heap of different things over a few forums and the recurring tip for under 25's is to be a member of a car club?

Cheers,
Andrew.

Based in the eastern suburbs, all make, fairly active, CAMS approved club.  I know some members there work @ Shannons also.

damn, sorry to hear bout the car

heres a list of subaru clubs that are apart of shannons: http://www.shannons.com.au/pages/carclu … rch=Search

i first insured my RX when i was 18 through CGU and paid $1400pa (700 excess) as a rating 4, when i was 21 i got my rating 2 and now i pay $1000pa (300 excess) with monthly instalments. i had it insured against my car loan which was arranged by the bank. i can choose a repairer if it is approved by them as well. ive had no claims and no dramas (prolly cos ive had no claims...)

thats my 2c anyway

That'd be me. I *was* paying closer to the $1800/year mark for my R33, with a $2200 excess with Just Cars. 'hawks123' suggested I try Shannons, but I figured I had no chance as I was only 20, etc.
Gave them a call, they asked the aforementioned questions regarding my interest in cars, motorsport, clubs (I mentioned I was in SkylinesAustralia, etc), as well as asking if I'd done any of the work on the car myself (which I have... lots!), etc. Ended up being about $1100/year with a $900 excess ($2000 for a non-nominated driver).
I think they just want to know that you're actually an enthusiast, that you actually care about your car.

As an update to my original post, I'm going with Just Car, coz they're the only ones who'll insure me (and my mods - not that I really count them as mods haha but to insurance companies they are) smile
