Seat interchangeability

  Top of Page

so.. after recently purchasing a gen 1 liberty i discovered that the factory seats have basically no lateral support what so ever..

i have a spare bucket seat currently undertaking passenger duties in my race car.. but im curious, what later model liberty/WRX seats bolt directly into gen1's..

without modifying seat rails etc.. just unbolt and bolt straight in..

also where can i get aftermarket seat rails for Gen1's..

cheers in advance..

mate any liberty gen 1, gen 2, gen 3, gen 4, impreza/wrx gc8, gf8, gda, gdb, forester SF5 or SG5 will fit as they all share the same rails. not sure about MY09+ models but all that previous years will swap straight in. If your looking for aftermarket rails, Bride make a low set for subaru.

also a tip - GC8/GF8 seats are on lower rails than GD standard so some GC8 STI seats are probably the best choice in my opinion and will bolt straight in. Also the earlier GC8 seats offer more support (the earlier the better) as the later models use "fat guy" seats to accommodate a larger rear end

awesome.. that is exactly the news i was hoping for.. also means that any sparco or similar seat rails for a WRX will fit both the seat and car..

sweet, ill see if i can score a pair of seats for a decent price.. if not ill chuck in my bucket..

Thanks for your help..

Hey,

figured i would update the seat situation.. I got sick of the factory seats just 4 days after getting the car.. replaced with these.

Picked them up yesterday and chucked them in when i got home from work.. took all of about 10 minutes..

They do bolt straight in, but the inner rear bolt lines up with the seatbelt hole, not the factory mount hole.. either way, not a problem..

I simply moved the seatbelt to the factory seat mount hole on each side..

Oh and either somebody has had the seats out before and locktite'd the bolts or subary REEEEAAAAAALY dont want you taking the seats out... tightest factory interior bolts ever.. had to use my rattle gun on interior bolts... MAD SHIT..

Nice seats, they're a pretty common choice and a pretty comfy ride as far as buckets go in my opinion.
I had a bit of trouble with lining up bolt holes with mine too, but got it sorted after some work. And yes, undoing those bolts was quite a mission, I wouldn't say hardest ever though, some of the driveline bolts win that award.

haha, yeah i meant interior wise... harmonic balancer bolts are the winner for hardest bolt to remove..on toyotas anyway..

i had a look at some later model sti seats too (post bug eye) but the side bolstering felt a lot softer.. and the seats werent as buckety if you know what i mean..

personally i love bucket seats.. i have a nice tight bride in my race car and i love it..

I am very impressed with the ones i got in though.. for a recliner semi bucket, they hold very well..

nice cheap..ish upgrade..
