RX Liberty, Meet Mr Skippy...

  Top of Page

Well, On the way down to adelaide on friday morning, the unspeakable happened. Mr skippy decided he didn't like the look of my lib, and took action accordingly. Four and a half feet of eastern grey played meet and greet with the passenger front corner at full highway speeds. It was a wet morning, so his fur was a dark grey. I didn't see him come out of the trees until the last second. I saw 2 bounds, and then crunch...

Lucky in some ways though. Battery got pushed into the cam cover, but didn't 1 - break the cam cover/gear 2 - didn't split the battery. Air-bag sensor was about an inch away from the impact point - how it didn't go off I don't know. Wiring for the main loom and also the airbag sensor has been damaged, but not enough to stop the car from running. Wouldn't be suprised if it stops working once things start being moved around though.

Damage is rather extensive. Had a crash shop have a quick browse over it, and gave me a quick estimate of about 8 grand to fix.
So far the parts I have ID'd that need replacing are as follows: Radiator, A/C condensor, A/C ally pipe work, Bumper, Reo, Grille, Bonnet, Radiator support (as well as a few other support bars), Passenger side front guard, passenger front door, headlight, spotlight, Inner Guard.
Somewhat expecting an economic write-off, but it depends on what the local crash shop says...

More seriously, the support panel that goes between the chassis and the strut tower has been majorly moved (this is welded in). Also, the old girl has significantly increased turn-in now, so I'd say he's played havoc with the suspension geometries as well.

I'm just waiting for the quote to go through - another few days, as the admin chick at the shop is off at the moment.

Yea, fully insured Aek - I won't own anything worth more than a few grand that isn't - just not worth the hassle if something does happen. Unsure as to which way it will go yet - Possible structural, depending on the outcome of the panel mentioned in the first post.
I'll take a photo this arvo of it and if anyone knows or works in a crash shop can tell me what the go will be with it, that would be much appreciated.

It's insured for $14,100 (don't ask me how its worth that much, especially considering it doesn't take the wheels or the stereo into account... My jaw dropped when I heard that!), so it will take an awful lot of damage to write the old girl off economically. That said, I'll be a happy man if they do write it off, I'll be up by a few grand...

Insurance company is actually being a pleasure to deal with at this point, so no dramas there! Yea, he ate a mix of bitumen and dirt soon after. If he didn't he wouldn't have lasted long anyway - I was fair pissed off at him at that stage. Spotties are damned useful! The ability to read signs at 400m helps! (and no-one seems to high beam me anymore, I wonder why tongue). I've missed so many roo's courtesy of them, just they don't help that much at 9.15 in the morning... Lightforce 240 Blitz's - expensive, but worth every penny.

XoN - I was extremely lucky in that respect - I caught him mid bounce, so the impact point was right where the head light should be - the wiring is all that is left. If I collected him at the the top of his bounce, he would have slid across the bonnet, and at the speed he was moving, he would have landed in my lap, probably very alive and very scared.

Well, we'll see what comes out of it... and hope that I don't collect another one...

Ben

Edit - Have a look, see what you think - structural or what?

Hey all - thought I'd post up the latest.

Rightio - first up, the above panel damage is NOT structural, despite all I was thinking and hearing. The panel can be replaced, and is known as the inner skirt.

Got the quote back from the crash shop - turns out the little prick did very close to $10,500 dollars damage. If my insurance company had their values actually correct, it would be an economic write off. But, because they don't seem to care about my research, they're going to fix it. Oh well, their loss, my gain (Don't mind me, I just get a bit annoyed when you give companies all the relevant info, and they then proceed to completely ignor it!). It goes in on the 22nd, and by the time I get back from my holiday, it should be all as good as new.

I'll post up some pics once I get her back. She should look pretty shmick.

Cheers,
Ben

Ok, got her back end of last week, been busy with work and such like though, so heres the new pics. Damn she looks good clean and with fresh paint. Crash shop did a great job on her, despite taking about a month and a half to get it done. Still a few minor items they need to get, but she is drivable.

Few little perks with the repair, a few small things that didn't work prior to the accident are magically working now, the roo took out one of the spots, but you can't buy them as individuals, so I got a new pair out of it. Few other little things, but shes basically a better car as a result...
