by buddylove on 01-07-08 01:00 PM That is amazing, i wonder what the costs will be to build this skyscraper and to purchase one of the luxury rooms right up the top. must be in the 15 million dollar plus range at least. 2010 is so close as well! |

You're not the only one - architects love Dubai too. Here they can let their ideas run free, without the constraints of planning or money or construction costs that they have to deal with in western cities. Was there last year - its just one big construction site at the moment. Will be interesting to see what the place is like in 10 years or so... |

by krapmeister on 01-07-08 01:29 PM Thats one of the things that is interesting about Dubai - they are trying to creat something out of nothing. Once the oil money has gone, what will there be? The only thing really going for it is its location. As a business destination, with its proximity between asia and Europe and tax free status of course makes it a plus |

by ams on 01-07-08 01:42 PM Interesting read on the Wiki about it. 90% of construction done in a factory and they only actually build the core of the tower onsite, all the rest arrives on trucks |

This is a fair point, unlike the rest of the United Arab Emirates, Dubai doesnt actually have oil money, atleast not on the scale as the rest of the UAE. So they will run out of oil money very very quickly (read the next few years, atleast from what ive read/heard) which is why they are trying to set themselves up as the new trading epicenter of the world. So if they can get everything going and bring all of the big business that they need to keep it going Dubai will most definately be one insane city in the next decade or so. |
