That is amazing, i wonder what the costs will be to build this skyscraper and to purchase one of the luxury rooms right up the top. must be in the 15 million dollar plus range at least. 2010 is so close as well!

i think its interesting to note that this architect has never designed a "standard building"
he has always been one for the weird and wonderful designs

i think it looks effing awesome though
i heard somewhere that he has plans for a heap of others across the world as well

You're not the only one - architects love Dubai too. Here they can let their ideas run free, without the constraints of planning or money or construction costs that they have to deal with in western cities.

Was there last year - its just one big construction site at the moment. Will be interesting to see what the place is like in 10 years or so...

Thats one of the things that is interesting about Dubai - they are trying to creat something out of nothing. Once the oil money has gone, what will there be? The only thing really going for it is its location. As a business destination, with its proximity between asia and Europe and tax free status of course makes it a plus wink - and tourism - however at the moment its okay for a stop over but not much to do for longer than a few days. Thats why I say in 10 years it may be better.

However, will it work?

No one really knows, but they sure aren't gonna die wondering... smile

Interesting read on the Wiki about it. 90% of construction done in a factory and they only actually build the core of the tower onsite, all the rest arrives on trucks wink

it would definitely be one hell of a site to see. a couple of dozen dirty big trucks carrying bits of a building
then watching them put it all together

interesting to see if its successful

This is a fair point, unlike the rest of the United Arab Emirates, Dubai doesnt actually have oil money, atleast not on the scale as the rest of the UAE. So they will run out of oil money very very quickly (read the next few years, atleast from what ive read/heard) which is why they are trying to set themselves up as the new trading epicenter of the world.
So if they can get everything going and bring all of the big business that they need to keep it going Dubai will most definately be one insane city in the next decade or so.
