RB25 in UC torana project

  Top of Page

Not sure if you guys are interested, but i thought I'd post up the latest on this epic project. Here's an update on where this project is at, enjoy..
Finally got the lower controls arms back and all the suspension is back in. All new ball joints and bushes. There's still a fair bit to be done to front end, but i needed the car to able to be pushed around.
Just waiting for more funds then the car will go to get the whole front end/engine gearbox dropped from under so some tunnel strengthen work can be done. Also the rear of tunnel near the gear stick needs some mods. I put the gearbox and engine in to work out clearances and stuff.
Anyway some pics...

I will. I did have a RB30 with a sc14 supercharger in it and running before the strip down and respray.

It revved really quick and went hard, well i only drove it up and down my mates workshop. i decided to turf the idea cause it was going to cost more to rebuild the RB30 to suit supercharger, R33 5 speed gearbox, new clutch and other parts needed.

A R33 half cut for $3,395. Can't argue with that. I also sold the RB30 motor with charger and heaps of left over R33 parts. I'm still in front.

I can't wait to here this engine run again.

very very very sick concept, its like what a kid would end up like if an asian lady mated with an australian man, technical inside, brute looks outside.

u will definitely scare and piss off the v8 fans out there, good on ya!

the paint looks f@#ing awesome, is it factory colour? i wouldnt wana scratch it putting the engine in and out, keep us all posted

I had about 4 mates over when we put the motor and gearbox in from under the car to prevent any damage to paint work.

The colour is from a renult alpine and the colour is turquoise. It's made up from solid white, transparent blue and green. You can see either blue or green under certain lighting.

Did you go to torana festival this year in newcastle? I think they had a torana there with RB26 in it looked very nice and from the board near it, it went like the clappers.

Looking like a good project, loving the paint colour smile

Dude, that's a bit rude. It's a UC torana meaning it came out with a 6 cylinder from holden. Calling it a sunbird would be like calling a B4 a GX liberty with a turbo.

Each to their own. Keep your uneducated opinions to your self in future.

Did you know the LX torana also came out in a sunbird model?

Also the A9X has the same floorplan as the UC.

ALSO: the UC has Radial tuned suspension (Like the Comodore), the BIG Salisbury diff and a much better dash setup.
The front isnt too bad, but the rear does blow donkeis for a living.

I agree the rear is a bit ugly. It's not so bad cause mine is the two door model.

ah come on the backs not that bad, better than lh/lx thats for sure. first car i owned on the street (rather than belting round the paddock) was a uc. i f****n hate to admit but it was a sunbird. Red with mags and a sunroof and no badges, almost looked good for an 18 yr old, if only it had more under the bonnet. but then id be wrapped round a tree some where:shok: good first car really.

I profer the LH/LX read end.

The hatch is a rare bird Studricho, Did u know that Holden actaully released a turbo charged 202 in 1978, in the Hatch only. I think it ran 12psi. I have the specs in a workshop manual somewhere.

Werent the 4cyl sunbird models the OHC opel 2ltr's?. Single downdraught stormberg.

Squishy, i did the same thing with my first car, it was a HQ woody tho. Awesome car, saved a mates and my own life in a pretty serious stack, even at 30yrs of age (the 308 was still running, even after we climbed out of the windscreen as the car was so bent no doors would open.)

Re: RB25 in UC torana project

there were 2 kinds of 4 cylinder, the opel (which from memory was OHC) and the "starfire 4" which was basically a holden red with 2 cylinders lopped off (thats what mine had). i almost feel all dewy eyed and emotional, what with all the memories and so on.

The opel engine earned the nickname hopeless engine and the starfire earned the name backfire.

The turbo UC your talking about was the UC torana SL/T.

Update 1/03/08

Found out that a mate who is an auto sparky by trade had lost his job and was looking for some work to do. So i called him and asked him if he was interested in doing the torana wiring up.
I'm so happy with what he has done. He has stripped down the RB25DET harness and has all the relays/fuses sorted ready to go.
The car goes in on Monday to get some structural work done. Anyway some pics.

I've been working heaps on the car. I want to drive the car, not look at it in my garage. It's been always 90% work on bikes, then 10% on the car. The tide has turned. All going well i should have the engine firing in about 3 weeks.

Yep, the car will be engineered and registered. I'd like to use as a daily driver, but I don't know if that is possible anymore.
I've owned the car for 17 years now and I have always driven this car every where. Sadly I don't know if it will be possible to do that, cause the car is so different.
