Racism in Australia

 Top of Page

Hey guys/girls
i was just trolling through Youtube and came across these two video's.
Vid #1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ervmH9T … re=related
Vid #2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1UO9mP7 … re=related
Both are on different side's of the tracks.
Question:

Do you think that these "ethnic groups" should be more respectable towards Australian culture?
Are Australians too "Patriotic" and should give everyone a break?

Now im wondering what is everyones thoughts on this current issue?
Racism is a very sensitive topic and i know that we have many different race's on here. so keep it reasonable guys we are all mates. nothing should be taken to heart and if it gets out of hand. Mods/Admin will delete it.
this can give us the chance to express our personal view on the matter.
im looking forward to the discussion

I think both of them are terrible singers and would probably struggle to find more than a couple of brain cells between either of them.

Both movies are extreme's and i think they only represent a very small part of Australian citizens and "new australians".

I think the bigger your mouth is publicly defending your own 'ethnicity' to a crowd be it wog or australian, the more sh*t your likely to cop straight back in front of said crowd.

The reality is we live in a hugely multi-cultural country and short of Hitler-style cleansing tactics, they are here to stay if we like it or not. Deal with it.

ps. I dont endorse the hitler-style tactics

pps. I'm half 'wog'.

a topic which would never be touched on a car forum.. something different

just trying to get some bloody life into this dull and repetitive forum that we have.

Overseas.. no i havnt had the chance just yet. but why would i need to go over their to know whats going on. we see it day in day out on out TV,s computers and newspapers.

from what i have been taught from schooling and personal experiences regarding the issue. Coming from city of Canberra we are often exposed to the indigenous side of things. being built on "sacred land" we have been told to respect and thank the indigenous community for allowing us to use their land which our government took from their ancestors.

Most people respect them, but those who dont are mainly patriotic and only stick to their personal belief which they have been either taught or chosen along their journey of life.

its all about personal opinion. thats why we have these discussions, everyone gets a free say. a chance to express their thoughts.

as for "Wogs v Aussies"
this is based on the religious side of things, people beliefs and faiths play a big role. I my self WAS rasict towards many different ethnic religions and origins. this got my no where in life.. it was simply my own personal opinion.

growing up in a era where almost more then 30% of students have an ethnic heritage shows me that i have had the chance to hear their stories and what they think about this issue.

people say" go back you your country WOG" is this statement said in a way of a threat, or in a sense or fear?

I don't see how that statement has anything to do with religion.

I think its mostly to do with boredom if anything. A bunch of brainless Aussies picking on another bunch of brainless <insert race here> who are bored as hell because they are (obviously) un-educated and jobless and happen to occupy the same street/beach/kiddy slide whatever...

I guess religion can be somewhat of a grey area when it comes to racism, you can directly link the two i guess. But certain aspects of it can lead one to be biased against another people due to their religious beliefs. Is that not racism?

Re: Racism in Australia

definition of racism:

Prejudice and/or discrimination based on the myth of race. Racists believe that some groups are born superior to others and, in the name of protecting their race from “contamination,” they justify the domination and destruction of races they consider to be inferior to their own.

religion is a key factor due to different beliefs.

we say things to one another becase we dissagree with each other decisions.

why did you say that the aussie is brainless and picking the fights?

becasue this is YOUR opinion, something that me, pauly, or anyone cant change..

free speech, its a great thing, get your word out on this issue, thats why i started it.:Dirol:

Yes, but you can hardly call someone standing atop a vehicle with no shirt on and flag tied around their neck "Intelligent", in fact I'd be doing just the opposite.

Its these events/people that i think odeo is reffering to. This racism isn't innitialy sparked through religous beliefs. But through mis-education and I'll understanding. And as we all know, what humans don't understand they naturally fear.

You scare a dog, it will bark.
This is the level these people are at.

Re: Racism in Australia

forgive me for throwing a spanner in the works...

but aren't we all immigrants in one way or another? Unless your aboriginal... you really can't do the whole "**** off back to your own country" thing... when you are really here on borrowed time anyway...

I like the extremists and the idiots bouncing on top of cars and pelting cops with bottles... Because no decent person would/ should take their views seriously... and instead of spreading their message... it gets laughed at or frowned at

What you need to worry about are the people who continually discriminate against someone in an underhanded or inherent way for example... the stolen generation 2 which is going on currently... or simple human rights problems like unfair laws for same sex people...

We are one of the lucky countries it seems, and it belongs to everyone and no one at the same time! interesting contradiction that!

I'm of Sicilian and Irish descent, but I am def Australian btw;)

I'm English.
The majority of Australian's I have met are far more racist than people I met in the UK.
That's a blanket statement I know, but it is the thing that saddens me most about the country I now live in.
The racism I have witnessed is usually directed towards the Aboriginals foremost and then the recent immigrant populations (African, Asian, Indian).
The racism I have witnessed stems predominantly from older immigrant populations (European predominantly).

It disgusts me.

Hi guys,

No Point being racist, it will get you no were...:nono:

I think there is a problem with racism in Australia at the moment and its not just the Aussie's, living in Sydney I find that a number of new immigrants really are quiet arrogant and nasty towards people who do not share their cultural background, these people need to make much more of an effort if they want to continue living here, if not then maybe they should go back to were they come from and be happy living out their culture as they were.

As for these bogans jumping on cars shirtless with flags and **** tied around them, that really is disgraceful, they are not Australian they are just morons, And I do think that some Australians need to be more accepting of new immigrants and give them a chance to fit in, but also the new immigrants must be willing to give it a chance which some just seem as though they don't want to, further segregating them from mainstream society and in the process starts racism.

If you look around there are a lot of immigrants who have moved here and have become a big part of the Australian way of life, Italians, Greeks, Europeans... Why can't other cultures be like this?

I grew up around Kempsey In NSW, I know what the Aboriginal community is like, its a very very troubled one at present, there are a lot of programs running to try and break this cycle, Elders are in charge of many of these and have shown some success which is good........ Finally they are starting to realise that they need to help themselves and stop blaming others for their current situation and take responsibility for their own actions, because of this we see more and more Aboriginal people moving into the mainstream society and taking up jobs within the community.

I think every one needs to be a lot less racist and make more of an effort to get to know each culture.

Sorry for the lengthy possibly ranting thread.

You don't see sh*t on the TV, computers or in newspapers. NOTHING compares to going OS and seeing how the other side live. I haven't been to every single country or continent in the world, but I've been enough places to give me a sense of perspective. You honestly have no idea what its like 'till you're standing over there seeing it, smelling it and hearing it.
