                                                                                 I got this car:

http://forums.finalgear.com/post-your-car/...irst-car-15616/

a few months ago in White with 150 k Kms on it. It is an auto and a part of me wishes it was a manuel even tho I enjoy being able to chomp down maccas while swerving in and out of traffic.

Im starting to become quite interested in my car and would like some additional performance, the thing is I have little to no idea on what to drop in to make make the car faster.

What are some upgrades I can do to make the 2.5 perform a little better?

Lets just assume I have a budget of X what could I do with that?

$250

$500

$1000

$1500

$5000

Thanks heaps for the info guys and girls

Thats a bit pricey for one. I bought mine a few years back for more than 2gs less what you have just paid. I'm the 2nd owner and had all receipts.

As for your questions, see Modding an N/A - the truth and NA: Extractors/Headers thread.

Don't spend anything on the 2.5, just get something with a turbo on it and drop it in.

Well in that case, invest in suspension mods (sway bars/strut bars/bushes/springs/wheels/tyres etc) and cosmetic interior/exterior mods if you so wish..

save the rest for a turbo half-cut and convert it once you're off ur P's..

remove the resonator and make up a cold-air feed for more driveability & middle range fun

Ya so you reckon I should not upgrade anything to do with the engine then just bolt a turbo onto it when i get off my P's?

Ive heard that I may aswell just sell it and get a Turbo'd car as this will be cheaper, Can anyone give me a rough Idea on how much it will be to put a turbo in my car?

The answer is how much you're willing to spend. 5k, 10k, 20k, 30k etc etc.

Likley 5k, is this enough to whack a decent turbo in and modify the engine so it can handle it?

rule of thumb with subaru motors is you dont turbocharge a naturally aspirated motor.

you swap out the ej25 for an ej20. just like i and many other did.

AM auto have said on this site they can put in a V3 or V4 STi motor for 6grand +gearbox and clutch or any other bits n pieces you want like front mount cooler, bigger exhaust etc.

if you get turbo, go manual, auto sucks ass for any sort of performance expecially in the hills, auto goes alright in a straight line, thats about it.

dont bolt a turbo onto your current 2.5L its pointless and you'll have too much trouble trying to run it.

the best way is a swap from a wrx into your car.

minimum price would be as said before, which roughly works out to be $1500 for fluids and labour, +price of WRX or similar half cut, +any mods you want to do to it.

With that much money, all you could do is spend it on a hooker and some blow.

As you spend more, you get better merchandise.

As for spending it on your subaru.

Forget it.

You'll need at least $10K to do anything worthwhile.

Re: Price points to upgrade a Gen II Liberty

Lol thanks for the advice lads, I think it will be too painful to have to deal with this car for another 2 years knowing all the while that when I get my Blacks Ill be trading up for a WRX.

I do love the interior and the way the car looks from the outside so I think I might stick with this one. So....when I get my blacks I can spend about 10 grand to transplant a powerfull wrx motor into the shell along with a manual tranny. Will it go as hard as a wrx or the libs too heavy? What mods can I do now that will be compatable with the transplant later on?

Also what do you guys think of lowering it? Will this improve handling? (I know it will look better) What are some good springs ect?

Again I cant thank you guys enough for the advice.

WRX? Powerful? HAHAHHAHAHAHAA.

You may want to google "STi".

Now. You can be either a sheep, and buy a commonarsed lowly WRX, or you can be a man and do a conversion.

So by conversion do you just mean converting my Motor so it can handle the turbo?

Re: Price points to upgrade a Gen II Liberty

Converting your NA Liberty to a turbo......   Could be as cheap and ghetto as just throwing a hairdryer on the current 2.5 engine and hope for the best or as Expensive and elaborate as replacing your ****heap motor for a STI engine and then converting all your running gear to match.     It all depends on your budget and personal tastes.  Try searching the forum for some other users that have done a conversion

Somehow, I don't think that would be an STi cut as I paid $6500 just for my V3 STi halfcut.

Don't do anything to it under the bonnet, maybe a few suspension components here n there, but this is all.

...Learn to drive with the 2.5 and love it.
Then when you're of age, throw a  rexy donk in your already equipped (suspension wise) road warrior thing and then (wham bam, thankyou mam) you'll be able to drive it.
But until then, you can have just as much fun in your 2.5 then anything else, you just have to know how to drive.
