Power Figures?

  Top of Page

I know this probably isn't going go down well with most on here BUT...

What is everyone trying to acheive by chasing power? Am I missing something here?

Of course everyone wants more power and it comes down to how much is enough for the individual and what they want out of the car.

With my B4, its a daily so i'm mainly after better drivability and reliability; not all out kws.  I'm satisfied with its power (for now wink) but if i can minimise the VOD, i'll be content.

Well, you cant get the Rockdale wog out of me, so no matter what car I have I want more power,

It all comes down to 1/4 mile times for me.

(And occasionaly a red light battle:blush2: )

Sold the Subaru, replaced it with a Honda.. but all I know is Subaru's! (and Holden V8's of course):secret:

I think for a lot of people it's factory tune (b4=crap) vs. potential..  If you don't need a silent exhaust and you don't mind spending extra on a bigger IC, you get good gains for not really very much $$

Like the adrenaline rush I get with big powered car.
Quite frankly the GT-B chassis can take a lot more power than 180-odd KW.
I just like the car to be more exciting to drive frankly, whether it pulls 7 or 5 seconds to 100km/h isn't important. How I feel getting to 100km/h is what I gun for.

I'm more interested in being able to boot it when I want - and there actually being power there.

My old crummodore just used to make more noise and drink more fuel...at least now i get power as well!

I dont really care about power figures. For me its torque (which is related to power more or less) but i dont go out to achieve a certain figure. 1/4 mile is most important to me but i wouldn't compromise a driveability and a smooth power curve. Of cos if we're talking a project/weekend car then i'd just get a RWD and go for power figures smile

Little do people realise that performance DOES NOT just mean "making your car go from x to y in a New York minute" - What about handling, balance, response? No?

Yes everyone does realise that but unless you plan to track your car, there's really no need to go beyond your typical suspension mods. It depends on what you intend to do with your car. Obviously if you want to build a kw beast then you're going to give up on response sooner or later.

Being an auto, responsiveness is my main aim; hence minimising VOD.  Compared to me old car, imo, despite the B4's weight i find the handling pretty good but down the track will invest in sways bars etc for those odd twisties runs.

I don't imagine that to be true at all, but then again, I'm thinking 'balance' which is clearly an oversight here smile

Even said "KW beast" needs attention to appropriate handling mods. A need to improve on how power is being put down is bloody important IMO.

Re: Power Figures?

Its all important. I'm just talking abt the extreme cases. Most people here aim to build a tough street car which encompasses a bit of everything. I said my aim is 1/4 mile which doesn't mean i'm going to response, handling and braking power because i intend to keep it as a daily driven car.

What do you want out of your car? Bit of everything daily driver? Just dont do what B4cruiser did. Buying a friggin auto and wanting to improve responsiveness tongue

hahaha.  Yes i'd prefer a manual but i don't regret buying my B4.  But I'm ready to drag ur dust gathering car anyday to shame ur Suki-tek; or is ur clutch "playing" up again? wink tongue

Improving responsiveness on a Subaru tip/steptronic-esque auto is a no no... smile

I'd be swapping that out with something of decent 6 speed proportions and MAYBE even DCCD.

A few thousand dollars isn't a great deal here and there.

You can pick up 5 speed gear boxes for under $2000. Better still, find someone who's doing a conversion with a spare gearbox and miscellaneous bits and pieces... although, you'd probably need to replace the ECU as well. Too much of a potential headache there... scrap that idea.

A better idea... Sell it and buy a manual B4 or go see someone who knows their gearboxes and get some options. smile

Not that it is going to improve on response, BUT you can get a Paddleshift setup that will work with your current box.

It'll be just like shifting normally... just with paddles.

The B4 comes with up/down shift buttons on the steering wheel; which can be useful thru the twisties.

Re: Power Figures?

It is all relative to your previous vehicle.

I got rid of my bike 0 - 200km/h in about 8 seconds, top speed in the vicinity of 320km/h. :victory:

Not to much is going to top that, so I am enjoying driving, but handling, sound and aesthetics is my aim. Nice comfortable car to drive, as long as I am not the retarded kid running last I am happy. :new_russi
