by JNK21 on 08-10-07 10:43 PM Hi guys, I'm just wondering regarding the police cars, all of their car's engine are sound different when accelerating (pedal to the metal), eventhough it is the same car from the outside to other V6's or V8's cars. If I'm not wrong, I read an article regarding police cars that their suspension were being upgrade to a performance suspension or something like that. How bout the engine? Do they change the headers or put a supercharger or something? Cheers. |

by befour on 08-10-07 10:58 PM yeah they generally have a police pack on the commodores.. used to be called BT1 pack not sure what it is now.. they get FE2 suspension and a different chip.. I know the VR's were MAFless tuned too cos we have a few ex chasers that are VR's come through dads shop and they were all missing the MAF sensor |

by Bumpty on 08-10-07 11:10 PM By the sounds of it, they've been modding their cars for a while, i've a mate who has a Vt (97) commodore which is ex cop and has suspension upgrade and is tuned to something but has the chip removed, rides like a dream compared to the standard models of the same year. |

VL BT1 Interceptor is the name of EX-Cop cars... and the bad side is, they used the same suspension from the VL-VT... Known as "FE2" |

by theprotest on 08-10-07 11:22 PM Thanks for the info befour & XX. Seems they were really behind the times. Maybe the stronger Ford presence in the police fleet will yield better performing cars? |

by XXB4XX on 08-10-07 11:27 PM most highway patrols are V8 commo's, reason being that suspension is easier and cheaper to modify on the Holdens, and believe it or not, its the officers themselves that prefer the commo? |

by SkoobyGT on 09-10-07 12:54 AM I know in NSW Police cars do NOT have anything done to them, apart from bigger alternator, and bigger battery. Some HWY cars have a little done, but very minor stuff if anything. |

I can garuantee that they DID.. they may not now but they definatly did as we had to service some at my dads shop that had the BT1 package, we get full specs on the car when servicing them from the fleet company that owns them (NSW Police dont own the police cars a fleet company does) As for the flogging of them this is most certainly true LOL I know of one car we serviced which was a Turbo Deisel Nissan Patrol that nearly died within the first 3000Km of driving because it was flogged soo hard, it did last out its time in service but was more gutless to drive then anything I know of. I get the privilage of driving these cars after a service from time to time to deliver them. The servicing schedules are very strict and the fleet company alocates a certain amount of money for the service, if you go over that bad luck you dont get paid any more, you arnt allowed to even drop the oil without authorisation from the fleet company either. If some form of repair work needs to be carried out such as leaking seals or replacement part you have to again contact the company and give them a quote and full details of what you are doing how and why then they will again tell you how much they will pay. |

by theprotest on 09-10-07 08:38 PM Pfft, you run the same risk buying any car, especially a turbo car. At least you are guarenteed a properly maintained, and professionally repaired vehicle. |
