By either changing the canvas size or the image size.

Get a ruler out (you'll probably have yours in a drawer beside your bed wink ) or...
Check this page out for imperial/metric/pixel equivalents.

photos are usually 4cm x 6cm...i think..
also, the higher the 'resolution' the larger the file size will be...
but the better it will print...more dots per inch... 150 minimum id say!
most print shops want 300 resolution for posters and business cards etc..
good luck!

Oh, and congrats on the new mod status bro!

Stretching my memory here, but I think if you go to the Image menu, and choose Resize image (or Resize canvas on older versions?) you can then choose the unit of measurement, pixels, cm or inches.
You might want to crop the image a bit to get it to the right general size first though...

Open photoshop..  go file>new..  As mentioned, use 300dpi for print..  you'll need large files to put in it..  original photo's would be good...

Make sense?

Haha..  looks a lot like leopard..  expose, spaces, dashboard etc.. but tbh I don't really use the mouse..

It's just sad that people buy windoze machines because they are cheaper..  so short sighted!!

It's like Betamax vs VHS all over again!
It looks a lot like leopard because MacOS is Linux under the skin, but n00bified to so that Mac users don't have to cope with too many mouse buttons...

And Macs are now basically windows machines anyway, only harder to get inside to upgrade, so I don't know what all the noise Mac users make is all about big_smile I build my own pcs anyway, which you can't exactly do with a Mac...

If it is the image output that you want in photo size then there are 'normally' options in the print settings to select an image to print at 6 x 9 etc, that way you can add as much detail into a larger picture and then it will look the goods when printed smaller.

I find you tend to get some fairly odd results that you aren't expecting when you do that, because photoshop automatically resizes the image before it prints. At least if you resize it first, you get to see what it'll look like before you waste paper

For simplistic reasons I suggest around 1260x900 should do you just fine.. at 72dpi.. You'll be right.. Thats what i created bday cards and invites as and got them printed up at 5x7 really nice and clearly..

Bits got trimmed off the top and bottom, so dont make it too close to the edge.. leave some "bleed" area.. (area able to be trimmed with the product looking fine)..

if you want to go into full pro styles, then yeah using the whole DPI thing would be tops..

but for something simple, that isnt for mass production to be send out to thousands.. youll be fine with what i have suggested, i have final products at home and PSD files if you want to see and test for yourself..

Some photos i edited of me and my friends i saved at:

1783x1183 at 72dpi.. printed at 6x4 and 5x7 just perfectly fine, no blur, stretching, or discolouring..

because they are being resized down you dont notice the quality loss..

Im not saying anyone here is wrong, im just saying what i use myself with no dramas! smile

the DPI issue usually isnt a problem for me, as at my work i create stuff for the web so i dont often have to deal with DPI issues!
