Petrol Pricing

  Top of Page

No doubt some of you may have seen this e-mail floating around. If not, or even if you have seen it I'm just posting for your thoughts.
I'm sorry if it's a bit long but it was a *.pps file so I changed it because I don't think you can upload that file type to the forum or to photobucket.

Re: Petrol Pricing

Not Canberra - Fuel here is closer to $1.50 for std unleaded, $1.10 would be a dream. Anyway, most of these have been debunked in one way or another. It's not going to make a scrap of difference who sells the petrol as to what the price is.

Oh, and yeah, my eyes hurt too.

Ps - notice the 'sponsored by Caltex' watermark on the last page.

I don't think it'll catch on, purely because it takes too damned long to read the whole thing.

Also, we may have more petrol now than we had 50 years ago, but we've also got a sh1t load more people buying it. And really when you think about what goes in to manufacturing it, $1.50 a litre is pretty cheap. I'm not saying I like filling up, but things could be worse...

its not just the petrol companies, the government takes out some rediculous figure (something like $0.80) per litre!

$1.50 isnt cheap when it costs them like 5c a liter to make.

There ripping us off, plain and simple. But what can we do about it.

If this 'petrol tax' goes back into our roads, I dont mind paying a bit extra. I dont know about you eastern states yobo's but our roads in WA are 1000% better than (for example) Sydney streets which is the only place I can compare it too.

Yes, thats a good point Odeo.

The roads around my area are f*cked...
I dont have the choice of getting public transport so i have to use my car, thus i have to buy fuel, which is double taxed by the federal and state governments.
So, why are the roads still f*cked?

Have alook at some of the budgetting for road repairs and such, then compare that against the Government sallaries, and budgets for "caucus meetings". They piss away more cash on themselves then they put into the community.

Edited: Cheers protest.

I work for Coles Express corporate, and I can tell you that we're not the ones making the big bucks. We make bugger all.

Dunno about Shell though... we buy our fuel from Shell. We basically man the store, and provide the store side of things; Shell does the fuel side.

There's a lot more to it than that. Scarcity, refinery costs etc. play a big part in it.

And if they aren't making any money, why would they bother? I mean, it's a business everyone is trying to run.

Re: Petrol Pricing

BP owns all the fuel in WA anyway. So they can't really lose.

My closest town only has one fuel station.

A fuel station makes less than a cent a litre out of the fuel on the bowser, nearly all profit is generated through the shop.

I do roughly 1000k/week - I also live rurally, so I know all about the sting. I filled up with BP Ultimate this morning, it was $1.64.

By the way mate, I think you are chasing 'caucus'.

I also think the point was lost in the completely retarded layout of the document.

Re: Petrol Pricing

If the government charged only one tax on petrol and not two (excise, then gst on top) that would make a saving on the price straight off. Blame the government first imo.

This email ploy wont work cos i can get 4c off at shell with my docket so im fillin up there! Huge saving! Hahahahahaha.

Re: Petrol Pricing

Emails similar to this were circulating the UK 5 years ago. They did SFA.
Some people (farmers IIRC) even tried to block the refineries in protest with big trucks. All that did was cause the fuel to sell out in the cities and cause big ass queues, with only emergency services and nurses being able to get petrol for 2 or 3 days (again IIRC) unless you knew someone...

Unfortunately we either vote in a government that doesn't tax the hell out of the fuel in the first place or drive less or drive more economical cars.

PS fuel in the UK is now ~$2.50 a litre...(for 95 RON not POS 91 that is standard over here.)

Re: Petrol Pricing

I think WA is the only state that has Fuel Watch too. I wouldn't hold your breathe for the tax to be reduced.

As mentioned in that Fuel Watch report though, and is good to note again, with our dollar being so strong at the moment we really should have been seeing an easing of the price.
