Performance issues & few other questions. thanks in advance

  Top of Page

Hi,

first time here and this subaru liberty wagon 2006 my04 2R DRange (manual) is my first subaru and AWD ever.

I've bought it a month ago and I'd like to get some answers for the following questions :
1) fuel consumption. first tank was 11.2l/100km combined driving, which is a bit off the 9.2 of the car specification. Is this ok for this type of engine? I don't push the car much.
2) I have a feeling the car lacks a go. I know it's the lowest engine but I've expected a bit more. Do you know about anyone who could do some job to it?
3) When on the first gear, sometimes the car shakes a bit like it's choking. obiously this happens if I don't add much of the pedal but I feel like I have to give it a lot in order to start moving
4) Where can I get the SatNav head unit, or any head unit that would fit the slots. Are those standard DINs?
5) Where can I get the roofracks (it doesn't have rails)

Thank you heaps.

1) You will find fuel consumption to be different everytime which relates to how you drive it and what type of fuel you are using. You should be using minimum of 95octane I believe. The average on Redbook is exactly that, city driving will give you less milage per tank, while highway should see more. I would give it a few more tanks. Also how did you calculate the amount of fuel used?

5) Roofracks can be found on ebay!

well I've calculated it in very simple way... since the first tank fill when I've reset the temp odometer, I got number of kms since, and having number of liters I've put in the tank last time I got that fuel consumption number.

I think there is something just not right, because even after a while of driving really in 'granny style' I get over 10.5 quickly. I hope that the 100K kms service check will reveal something, or at least changing some parts / cleaning will improve it.

I put in the premium petrol only...

I see how you do it but how do you know when you have used all your petrol from your last fill up? The petrol light can come on prematurally or late depending on a number of factors. This is how I do it:
Fill the petrol tank and set odometre
Do one day of granny driving
Refill tank to max (doesnt have to be empty),
use the amount of fuel you had to add to use in the calculation with the kms you did that day. This way you can get a more precise estimate of your fuel usuage.

If there was anything majorly wrong, you would expect much worse economy than your getting.

that's exactly how I did it, I just probably wasn't clear enough in my previous post. The average consuption number the computer gives is not very precise, my real consumption was 0.5 extra calculating it the way I've mentioned before (and the same you were suggesting..)

Hi, I just got myself a second hand 2006 Subaru liberty wagon. The guy i got it from was upfront and said it had a rattle that does not harm the engine but to fix it is around $1000. Apparently it is in all this year/model and it is a manufacture problem. (no warranty left) If it's with all this model i figure that someone else out there has the same problem and like me can't afford $1000 so im hoping someone can give me a way to fix it. It's when im in low gear only and when im releasing the clutch, its a squealing rattle type noise. It sounds like im driving a hunk of crap and i hate it. Please help me with a cheap alternative. Thanks yikes)
