Parking Lights and Tail Lights stuck on ?? look here first

  Top of Page

About time someone wrote up a DIY for this problem?

Let me try...

__________________________________________________ ____________

"Parkers / Tail Lights not turning off after ignition swithed off & key removed"

Time required: 2 seconds
Tools required: 1 finger (or your nose, a toe, someone elses fingers)
Difficulty:

Step 1: Realise the lights dont go out, and FREAK OUT

Step 2: DO NOT READ THE OWNERS MANUAL

Step 3: Post a "Please help" thread on every Subaru forum you can find

Step 4: Wonder to yourself what that switch on the steering column does

Step 5: Have people on forums respond with amusing comments

Step 6: Flick the switch, then bash your head against the steering wheel

A huge thanks to Poogene2001 for the DIY

I'd be impressed if you could flick the switch with your nose:lol:

As a new owner of a 02 Heritage, it caught me out. My wife phoned me & left a message saying the car wouldn't start, then left another message saying it was OK. I had a look when I came home & the parking lights were on. Didn't know about the parking light switch, and checked fuses, looked up the wiring diagrams from the manual posted on this forum and couldn't work out why. I guess somewhere in the wiring diagrams it shows the switch but I missed it. Did a google and first on list was an official USA Subaru site with the answer.
I also found a comment about every Subaru owner gets caught out once, but not all admit it.

After having the car for a month I had begun wondering but no enough to open the users manual.

I sometimes scare off a tailgater with the pulsed brake pedal trick.  Now it's gonna be so much easier with theis handy switch!! Thanks.

Must tell my wife too about that switch incase she gets curious.
