Paintjob : Clearcoat bubbles

  Top of Page

Bought my car mid 2008. Black 2.5i GenIV Liberty.

Today I went outside to find the clear coat on the trunk has started bubbling.
It looks like the guy has tried a DIY cut & polish. Alot of scratched also.

What is happening?
Anyone here had a respray, if so ballpark figures?

Try calling Subaru, they may cover it but if not I'd say around $4/500 for just the boot & blend into the rear guards.

I can't see the pics (POS laptop) but is it possible that it's a previous repair where the blend went wrong? If the fault is near the edge, its possible the adjoining panel was repaired and the clear blended onto the bootlid.
If it was a previous repair you could probably claim warranty under the insurance company that authorised the repair. I believe the trade term is 'rectification'.
Our 02RX is getting a scrape to the LHR quarter and they a blending the clear over the whole roof, opposite quarter and into the rear door openings, about $3000. The panel beater obviously doesn't want the blend to show up!

I can now see the pics (go the wife's Mac). I reckon d_generate is spot on, brake fluid or paint stripper (same result),bugger.
Be nice if you could get hold of the cowardly lowlife effen scum that did this.
Looks like a call to your insurance company and maybe the cops.

was really hoping it was a clearcoat respray, unfortunately it seems like that won't be the case.

will see if I can see someone tomorrow about it, as I don't think leaving it will help much. Could only have happened whilst at work or when car was parked outside home.

geez.
