On my way - Do I bring the Subaru

  Top of Page

Hi all

I am a Legacy fan from the UK and will be coming to visit Australia (Canberra) in June for the next couple of years. I am after some advice on whether to bring my current Legacy with me or whether I should buy one when I arrive.

I currently own a 1998 JDM Legacy GTB Limited. Condition is not bad but high mileage/mks (163k miles, 260,000kms). In UK it is only worth £2k (about $3200), how much would it cost to buy a similar car on arrival

Car is modded (exhaust/6 speed box, 4 pots, BH5 wheels) but looks nice. My employer will pay all import duty and shipping but I'm not sure how difficult it will be to bring in to the country.

Any advice or opinions appreciated

Matt

If your staying for a while and the boss is going to pay the import costs, than I would bring it with you. There aren't too many gtbs here and they are worth more than 3k here anyway.

Bring it with you, it'll be worth 4x more over here. Import duties and shipping will most likely be a small fortune, but if you're not paying big_smile

Welcome.

Youd get that just for the 6 speed setup over here. big_smile

If your boss is paying, id bring it over and possibly look at selling it if your so inclined.

make sure the import is done properly as some imports have been known to rust with the constant see air. Some have completely rust the underneath of the engine bonnet.

It's not the sea air that rusts "some" imports. Some countries put salt on the roads to provide grip on the ice during winter.

Bring your car with you.
1. It's worth more than 3K over here. Win.
2. Imports are being payed. Win.
3. It's a GTB and they are pretty rare over here. Win.
4. Sell it when you leave for a profit. Win.
