old age or high kays

  Top of Page

just asking...is there anything you can see to show that a cars km's are not ligit? also, corosion on rubber pipes, e.g. near the coolent pump, is that from old age, or from alot of kays. my mate has a car thats allegedly been sitting in japan for alot of years, and all this is the cause of the wet season in japan. the guy said that the humidity within the container also makes the engine bay look dodgy. the engine sounded good (no smoke or weird noises), it had 2nd hand engine oil and rely s**t fuel (probably not even 91 octane). and its a turbo so it needs good stuf, could this be the reason of the odd (subtle) misfiring?

its a real weird car. the clutch pedal is realy worn, but the dash is in good nik. the stering wheel and gear knob is in good condition and are both aftermarket (usual stuff with jap imports). the air filter is aftermarket as well and seems to be brand new with some dirt on it.

it this a ligit low kay car? or are these just little clues...

You'll find most JDM import motors look like salt encrusted crap, mine did but it blows off with a high pressure cleaner, usually sit around the wharves & corrode, but it's not a problem, it's only on the surface.

im saying, im i wrong to think the only reason why it isnt running too good the fact that it had bad engine oil and poor petrol? there was no smoke, no noises and it started up real quick with no weaird rattles.

Yeah petrol loses it's octane when it sits around for any more than a few months, doubt there is much wrong with it.

yeh, mine looks more as if it was sweating a bit.  i think we might put the poor (ish) running down to the petrol. the engine started fine even though its been sitting for a while. we were just only spun on how the clutch pedal was worn but nothing else. im scared they put aftermarket stuf on so we cant tell the wear.

d_gen, everytime i see piks of your sti red engine it makes me regret not getting that sti halfcut so much more.
