Not a newbie, Just a new car

  Top of Page

Well, this one I can't take any credit for as it was Laeths baby and he's built up an awesome package over the last few years.
Still to be known as The Black Shark as changing names is bad luck..

Here's the vital details.

But apart from making it a little more "mine" it's done and can just be enjoyed.

transmission is why i bought it.
i did have an MY99 GT forester, but wanted an auto for the daily grind and for towing duties (no clutches to replace)

Sorry.. I have to say I'm with walts on this one..

An awesome car, but I'd rather change a clutch every 40-80k k's than put up with a slush box every day!

Each to their own i guess!

Hi,

Plus it's JDM so it wont be running the nasty ADM 90:10 split. Awesome cruiser.

Enjoy her mate. Such a beast.

Cheers,
Nik

yep, 35:65->50:50 split VTD box, rebuilt earlier in the year with tougher clutch packs and some form of valve body mods for higher line pressures i believe.
there is NO slush in the box, it shifts very positively. it's a great improvement on a stock box and how they should have been from the factory.
plus being able to keep full boost on gear-changes... makes it damn quick when it needs to be

and as Nik said, it's a cruiser,
or lock the tranny into second for the tight-twisty stuff

Still boring! Even if it is a daily, unless its a 500kw RWD auto it could be fun

First post updated with mods and new pics.

Basically, i've managed fit the Haltech Interceptor and get some fuel into it to run 15PSI,
changed the steering wheel for gen2 RX Momo,
gen2 RX foggies fitted
new federal 595EVO tyres
tidied some cabling and vacuum lines in the engine bay
(after discovering the power feed from battery to alternator was shorting out on the primary turbo and killing everything electrical in the car wasn't that a headf(uk and fire hazard)
original wheels were sold off
tune still needs some work but it's coming along slowly and the car fkn hammers

I am also led to believe that there's another Black Gen2 GT TT Leggy making it's way to the state....!

G'day again,
after owning the TT beast for a few months it's time to eveolve....
I have proved to myself that i have had the TT running well and although a digsh!t tune it was decently powerful.

but now it's time to strip it's guts of all the troublesome TT crap, strap on a TD05 and forget about VOD forever
Plans are
-TD05
-V3/4 STi ECU or 97-98 WRX ECU
-re-pin the looms to suit
-440cc injectors
- WIN!

Re: Not a newbie, Just a new car

  Top of Page

hopefully very little
I already have some bits
TD05 ($150)
Silicone Intake ($200)
440's ($200)
and what i need to get/ pay for
-ECU ($200)
-AFM $50 (if i go STi ECU, otherwise i can use existing)
-Exhaust headers and up-pipe ($very little, for second-hand bits)
-I'm thinking of tackling the ECU re-pin myself at this stage
-Dump-pipe ($300 new, $100 second-hand)
-mods to exhaust ($100)
-Exhaust/ intake gaskets ($100)
-y-pipe ($50)

i already have the Haltech interceptor installed so any extra fuelling changes can be done by me for free, but the STi ECU should be pretty good if i go that way with it. but it will go on a dyno once done for a proper tune ($600ish)

Nice car. Engine bay looks top notch!

Bit off topic, your using an early JECS ECU? How are you going to tune it? I've had trouble finding a good way to tune mine. Would going to a single set up be a good opportunity to install a Denso ECU? That way you can reflash it using openECU. Or would installing the Denso open a can o worms?

He mentioned earlier on that he's running a haltech interceptor - guess that's how he's tuning it.

Oh ok, that would make it easier. I'd still like to know if a denso would be just as easy to install as a JECS. Anyone tryed it on a single conversion?
