Hey guys just joined, just got my first car 1997 Liberty GX Sedan. Its in Mickey Mouse condition. I've just started to tune it a bit, I don't want a 10sec Scooby on my P's. My whole family drive Subarus, 03 RX, MY05 STi and MY04 WRX.

So better introduce my car, thats it in my Profile Pic.

1997 Liberty GX

Current Mods (Total cost=$100):
Pod Air Filter
Number Plate Protectors

PayDay Mods (next 1-2 months):
Exhaust System and extractors (shopping around rite now)
ANZ 17" Predators (already ordered)
Low Profiles
Spoiler
Driving Lights
Lower King Springs
Car Alarm
-possibly new RX body kit if i need the new front bar-

Future Mods(AKA In My Dreams):
STi Brake Upgrade
STi Hi-Flow Exhaust
Repaint in Black
Blackened Tail Lights and Lidded Headlights
K&N Intake System
Custom Body kit

Welcome to OzLiberty Nick. smile

Imo, the only thing required would be the brake upgrade if you like, and if your really set on it, a set of wrx front seats would be alright.

Id go an RX body kit if you can find one, not a custom.

Just my thoughts.

Use search to find out the mdding of an NA.

Welcome Nick,

I am sure you will get a good mix of advice and criticism. As mentioned use the SEARCH button and check out the how to mod an NA threads, plenty of info out there. If you get stuck along the way, just ask and i am sure someone will give you a point in the right direction. Sounds like a nice line up in the family mate, a couple of nice 'hand me downs' in the future!

Some may laugh at the listed mods mate.
STi exhaust? - its easier and more economic to get a custom 2.25' mild steel cat back, any exhaust shop can do it. Cost - $250?

STi brake upgrade - STi's used 4pots for a while didn't they, but now have they not moved onto Brembo's? If so, Their very expensive and wont clear 5x100 wheels. WRX 4pot fronts bolt right up. No mods needed.

K&N intake, i personally wouldn't bother with. It wont gain you much (read wont do jack!). Its easyer to make your own CAI. Do a quick search of the forum to find out how.

Bodykit - dont even bother, Firstly you cant really get them. Secondly they look horrific.

Racing seats - WRX seats bolt right in. But i suggest upgrading the suspension before you bother. Otherwise the car cant corner quick enough to warrant WRX seats.

You sound like me when i first joined, wink.
Dont take everything you hear to heart and enjoy bro.
A bit of advice, Loose the POD. Their illegal and dont do anything for an NA.

Thanks a bunch guys, in the last 2 hours i've really re-thought my build, i'm looking at a shift kit now, auto-lag is one of my pet hates. this site's full of tech-heads and DIY's. Regarding the pod, apparently if you have it covered its legal and its more to help it breathe better than to increase performance, i dnt expect kW increase for 30 buks.

i hadn't reely fully thought out the future mods, but now i know what to do first and how to go about it. Regarding the bodykit i was told that i may need to purchase the RX front bar to be able to fit in the driving lights although i think my curent bar will fit them. and the body kit isnt that bad.....is it.

once again thanks a bunch and keep the advice rolling, its gunna be a big month, mite move my bed in2 th garage

Ahh, an RX kit doesnt really constitute a custom body kit wink.

I priced one, 2.5k unpainted from Subaru. Not worth it for fog lights IMO.
If pods are covered there alright. But there still ghey... smile

yeh ur rite, $2500 unpainted is a bit of an expensive piece of plastic, so far the pods workin for me, altho if it screws up i'l put a K&N flat board in the factory box.

dont put a k&n panel filter in as our cars run a "hotwire" maf and they dont like the oil too much. (i had one, just sold it) the off the shelf ryco panel filter will do the job nicely, just do a "resonatorectomy" and ditch the pod wink

as for the rx foggies, you WILL need the rx front bar. they wont fit yours. I have the same bar and got a set of NZdm lights from ebay and fitted them. with the dash switch for $85.

yes thats it. the oz spec lx, gx's had a factory option for the fog lights but they were square. these are NZdm ones but they fit straight into the surround with a little bit of modding for the mounting wink

not in mine it wasnt. ahh the joys of being an electrician. its all there now and wired as factory with the foggie swtch also. i added the wires i was missing and the relay. fuses were already there.

maybe i'll retrace the steps and DIY it.
