Welome Jarryd,

Sorry to sound negative, but I'd just look at buying a GEN I that isn't stuffed, there a fair few out there, the few for sale on this site may interest you. Can't help you with price range. But if you decide upon the wagon and looking at a conversion then I would go a N/A EJ25 DOHC or SOHC, why put an under performing EJ22 in?.

And depending which state you're in is dependant on the turbo or N/A options, in QLD theres no Turbo's at all (except for diesel). I think there is loop holes in VIC, but not so much NSW.

Once again welcome and read up on the forums.

im in NSW so its no turbos and im not sure on the exacts of the loop holes. The reason i was thinking another ej22 was in the long run i would put a ej20t/ej25t in it. and he only wants like $500 for it.

You can get NA motors pretty cheap mate.
Look at a replacement Ej22 or perhaps an EJ25D.

The EJ25D DOHC are probably the pick of the bunch.
Also on the more expensive side of things is the EG or EZ30 H6 engines.
But then your starting to look at thousands of dollars.

For $500 you cant go wrong IMO.

Your cheapest option may be to buy a complete damaged car from pickles with reasonable milage on it, just depends on how much room you have & how much you can do yourself IE ripping the motor, gearbox & all the good bits out & selling whatever you don't need, sometimes this can actually pay for itself.

.Something like this would probably go for between $600/800 & it's only done 130k & has lots of good pannels etc which you could on sell, unfortunately it's an auto but it gives you an idea.

welcome

this is just a rough guess but here goes....

ej22 and tranny roughly about $700 and then you looking at a couple of days labour to do the swap which be aroun $500 lets say $70 an hour or so.....

for a ej25 DOHC ummmm close to id say but not sure on exact price but $800 engine alone and then tranny then the out and in and also wiring conversion/addaptation..... with wiring addaptation you can look at least $500 and up.....

so as Nick said buy one that isnt stuffed:bye:

Ahhhh. Good to see another Jarhead. Welcome to the forums mate. Your pretty limited in regards to what you can do. Maybe just throw a ej25 motor in for the time being. Work on the other bits and pieces that will help later on once your off your P plates.

BTW, Top band too. Rumours of my demise have been greatly exagerated = best song.
