New Tires

  Top of Page

Hey all,

Today I've just bought and fitted a set of Hankook Ventus SR-2 tyres, I paid $283 a peice and was told they're a much better tyre performance wise than the others I was looking at (Pirelli P Zero, Michelin Pilot Sport II and Bridgestone Potenza RE050) however they are lacking in durability.

Has anyone else driven on these tyres before or any of the others I was looking at?

how are they wearing? is the outside going faster than the rest?

apparently a common issue with putting wider tires/rims on a car is that the outsides go faster than the rest.

maybe its bad wheel alignment too? even if your car still goes straight it may still be out.

As far as wear is concerned I don't know seeing as I just got the tyres put on today and haven't really driven anywhere, but I know the inside of my tires wear quicker as I'm running 1.8 degree of camber, my front wheels we're aligned today the rears couldn't be as the bolt needs to be drilled out but they are getting done soon.

The tyres are a R17/225 with a 45 profile

Oh my bad, the tyre man told me that they have much higher grip than the other 'ultra high performance' tyres, just less durability

im running perelli p-zero's, which seem to have very very decent performance (not stupidly stupidly good) but are a heaps hard high durability tyre, and its showing... done nearly 10,000kms with barely visible wear big_smile

Oh ok, well I was a bit silly and just opted for the best performance (i.e. highest grip) my tyres are practically semi slicks and I'm probly looking at 15-20k's max out of em big_smile

I am ridiculous when it comes to modifying cars...

rest assured you well get more than 20 000kms. that is, if your wheel alignment is good. the rs-2's are awsome tyres. i bet they're gripping good!
oh yeah, i work for Hankook!
but that aside, they are a good semi-slick tyre for the price.
Hankook doesn't have much of a profile in OZ cos of lack of advertising. but they are one of the biggest tyre makes in the world. ahead of kumho, federal, toyo etc.
to see how well your tyres perform, check out the hankook evo and porsche time-attack cars in the U.S. on youtube. they all run your rs-2's.
thats a pretty good price you got if it includes fitting and balancing.

My wifes car has Hankook Ventus in 255/50/19. They are pretty good I must admit.

My GT currently has Pirelli P Zero Nero's, previously Potenza re050a's. Very happy with both.
